Remarks

The course eligibility is very simple. You have to pass graduation with a minimum of 45% marks. However, the competition is very high and seat capacity is very low. So you have to get at least first-class means 60 percent marks in your Physics honors subject. As any college under West Bengal State University does not take admission tests it becomes very important to have good marks in graduation to pursue MSc. The more percentage of marks you will get the chance of being on the merit list will be increased. The application form is online on the Barasat Government official website. If your name comes on the merit list you have to pay the fee which is Rs 6000 approx within 1-2 days. Yes, there is a reservation for minority candidates like OBC, SC, ST. There are also 10% seats available for other university students.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

I want to pursue Ph.D. in physics and want to be a physics professor that's why I have chosen physics in Msc & it is kind of an obvious thing for me. We had around 8-9 professors. And we had around 27 students in our physics department. So student-faculty ratio was very good. All of our professors are highly qualified and have done Ph.D. As We have learned many things from them practically. All of them were very willing to share their knowledge. Our practical class was regular twice a week. We have 4 semesters so we have to pass every semester exam to qualify for the next. You have to study a lot to get good marks in these exams. Moreover, we had assignments and practical exams

Fees and Financial Aid

Our college fee is very low if we compare it with other colleges. We have to spend around Rs 6000 per semester. So the total costs of study vary from 20,000-25,000. And this is the bare minimum fee for studying for an MSc. And you get the Swami Vivekanda Scholarship which is Rs 30,000 per year. And if you want to renew this scholarship for the 3rd and 4th semesters you have to score a minimum of 53% marks. And there is also a scholarship for a single girl child which is Rs 36000 per year. Moreover OASIS scholarship for minority candidates and Kanyashree for female candidates. And you can even apply for many private scholarships like Tata Scholarship, Jindal scholarship, and many more. College does not provide any job offer after competition of course.

Campus Life

4.5

On our college campus, life was good. Many cultural programs like Netaji's Jayanti, Republic Day, Saraswati Puja, Independence Day, Teacher's day were organized very well. And every year cultural programs were organized where many students from all the departments used to participate. in drama, recitation, singing, dancing, debate competition, quiz competition, and many more. Our library was very good. You will never feel a shortage of books. You will have every required book available for pursuing MSc in physics. Our classroom is decorated with good quotes, and pretty clean, There is an annual sports program organized every winter. In our department, we also celebrated fresher's party

Placement Experience:

Actually this is a general degree University , so I must mention that placement facalities are not so good. But yes , Job Fair is organised in University by some external agencies which offer jobs varying 2-2.5 lakhs per annum . But in the university most of the students do not accept that jobs. Half of the students are more interested on the higher studies. So ahet completing the fourth semester they prepare for PhD. And the another half are preparing for central government sponsored exams like CGL, CHSL, RRB, SBI , IBPS, LIC etc. University has a significant number of students who have qualified for Government Competitive exams.

Course Curriculum Overview:

My decision to choose this course depended on the fact that this course provides you with the opportunity to get various jobs in the industries with a high lpa. But this college does not help much in that aspect. All I had to do was myself. It is my humble opinion that the institution should improve its guidance in the area of its teaching methods. The exams were twice a year and were quite difficult on their own.

Biotechnology is a highly demanding course in today's world. The syllabus for this course is mostly around bookish knowledge and you have to gather outside knowledge on your own.
