Remarks
I took jee main entrance exam and got admission according to jee main. Although there is another mode of admission through board PCM(Physics, Chemistry, Math) percentage. I filled application form through thapar website. The application form was around Rs. 1000-1500. I got a seat after the cutoff was released I got CSE Dera Bassi (2 year dera bassi + 2 years Patiala). Then the seat got upgraded as the round goes. As I have a little low rank I got CSE Dera Bassi. Although the admission process was ok there can be some confusion sometimes due to jee main based admission and board based admission, which can be sorted.
Course Curriculum Overview
I have an interest in coding and development and the placement and curriculum of Thapar are good, so that's why I choose this course. Students are around 300 in CSE. Most of the faculty members are highly qualified at least PhD or M.Tech. in some cases. Teaching methods are good. Most of the teachers made presentations for lectures and provide that to students and some used whiteboards for mathematical subjects. Exams are of the moderate level if you study seriously 1 week before exams you can not only pass the exam but also can score good marks.
Internships Opportunities
There are very fewer companies that come for internships in the 3rd year and some students get interned with 50 thousand to 1.5 lakh per month internship. Companies that come for internships are JP Morgan chase & co., Arcesium, DE Shaw, Adode, Chattered, Optum, Salesforce. I didn't get an internship do I have no projects or tasks to clarify.
Placement Experience
The placement ratio is very nice but there are very fewer companies coming for internships and some students get interned with 50 thousand to 1.5 lakh per month internship. Students get eligible for an internship in the 3rd year (5th semester) and for placement (4th year 7th semester). There are many companies visited like JP morgan chase & co. which gives around 14 lakh CTC and took around 70 students with them, etc. The highest package offer was around 50 lakh(Microsoft) and average around 8 lakh. Almost 90-95% of students get placed. After degree I want to work in some good MNC and gain experience to accelerate my career.
Fees and Financial Aid
Initially, the fees for my course were around 1,70,000 but fees get increased every year by around 10%. It will cost around including hostels 16-20 lakh for 4 years. There are many scholarships based on merit jee score and board score for 1st year and scholarship for students having good cgpa after that. One can take a loan on campus from the bank and pay interest once a student gets placed. The placement ratio is very nice but there are very fewer companies coming for internships and some students get interned with 50 thousand to 1.5 lakh per month internship.
Campus Life
There are many fests held in Thapar. Saturnaila is the annual grand cultural fest of Thapar which is conducted around November or December. There are many technical and cultural fests happening. Books and journals are available in the library one can issue them for a month and can reissue them. Thapar has ground and courts for every sport. Lots of inter-college and among different teams inside the college happens very often. There are many clubs and societies like the Microsoft student chapter, frosh, toastmaster, Rotaract club, etc. For more details are available on thapar website.
Hostel Facilities
There are many hostels for students. Initially in 1st year ac rooms provided to only rankers but others good non ac 3-4 seater rooms. After 2nd year students good 5 start hostels like M, O, where infrastructure are very nice and ac rooms provided to all. Mess is also good except for some hostels. There are many places to eat on campus. Hostels are allotted CGPA bases and if you want to get a room with a particular person both should have to present at the same time. Hostels cost will be around 40,000-60,000 per semester according to the hostel. The locality around Thapar is nice and rich. one can get rooms for PG Rs. 5,000-15,000 depending upon the distance from college excluding food.
