WBSU-MY 2 YEAR EXPERIENCE

West Bengal State University does not take any admission tests for postgraduate admission. If you pass your graduation you are eligible to apply here. But in our Geography department, the demand for PG seats is very high. As the merit list is based on the marks of graduation, you need to have a good percentage like first-class marks to get admission here. Only 42-45 seats are available. And reserved seats for OBC/SC/ST & PWD are available. So the competition for general students becomes very high. You have to get a minimum of 70% marks if you want to be admitted here. The application forms are on our WBSU main website. You have to fill the form and then wait for the merit list published. As soon as you appear on the list you have to pay the application fee which is between 5500-6000.

After completing and getting good marks in graduation my next step is to pass MSc with first-class and prepare myself for the NET SET exam so that I can either do a Ph.D. or become a lecturer. We had 4 faculty and almost 42 students in our department. So the student-faculty ratio is 10 students per one professor. But our professors are very good and understanding. They are very interactive in online/offline classes. They have empathy and patience to understand our topic very deeply. They also do regular practical classes. Our professors have done Ph.D. in their field. We had 4 semesters. Every semester we had 5-6 papers and practical exams and internal assessment tests and assignments. Anyone who studies regularly can pass these exams.

The total two-year university admission fee was between 20k-24k. We had to give an admission fee before every semester and the fee varies between Rs 6k-8k. We did not have to give any other extra fees. University does not provide any financial assistance to waive the admission fee. However many government scholarships are available for needy students. Like SVMCM, OASIS, Kanyashree(For girls). And many private scholarships are available too. However, our university does not approve of applying for multiple scholarships. You have to apply for only one scholarship. No job is offered from campus.

Our university has a beautiful greeny campus. It's very much pleasant & refreshing. Our university organize some cultural functions but due to covid most of them did not happen. Our classroom is very clean. We had enough space between two benches. Our classroom was a wide amphitheater that amplifies the professor's voice in order to reach the entire home. Our library is awesome. Thousand of books are well organized on bookshelves. You can find your department book in the Geography section. After taking the library card you can take a book home. We have sports activity every year and we have a student union group.
