Remarks

The course eligibility process is very easy. WBUS does not take any entrance exam for admission tests. So it's purely on the marks of graduation. They will create a merit list of 80% marks in graduation and 20% marks of your higher secondary and secondary exams. So if you get great marks you will be top of the merit lists. You can apply here if you get 40% marks but for geography department admission you need a minimum of 70% marks in honors. As the competition is very high more marks of percentage may require. However, there are reservation seats are available. So if you belong to a minority you may get a chance with a little bit lower percentage. You have to fill up the form online in was an official website and pay the fee of roughly Rs 5900.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

I have got good grades in Geography honors. Now I want to do higher study in Geography. So I aim to be a lecturer that's why I have taken this course. We have roughly 45 students in our department and around 5 professors So the student-faculty ratio is good. We have around 9 students per one faculty. Every faculty in our university are highly qualified and all of them have done post-doctorate. Their teaching method is very good. They are very interactive in the classes. In covid times they have taken regular online classes. They are very keen to teach us in detail. However, some online classes are boring and some of the classes are interesting. We have a total of 4 semesters and we have to pass all of them to get an M.Sc degree. We have practical exams and internal exams every semester.

Fees and Financial Aid

The cost of studying in the main university campus is comparatively low than studying at any college under WBSU. The admission fee is Rs 5900. And every semester the fee is between Rs 4000-6000. So the total cost in two years becomes Rs 20000-25000. Our university does not provide any financial help. But we can apply for government scholarships like SVMCM, OASIS, K3. The eligibility of the SVMCM is that you must have 53% marks in MSc and your family income must be 2.5L pa. If you belong to a minority you can apply for OASIS. But our university only approves one scholarship per student which is very bad. If you are a female and have over 45% marks you are eligible for K3. These government scholarships give Rs 24000-30000 per year depending upon the subject.

Campus Life

4

Due to covid, our university was shut down most of our university years. So I have not seen any annual fest or cultural programs happening in our university. Some online seminars were organized in our department. We have the best library room available at the university. The room is very big and very well decorated. There have thousands of books are kept on colorful bookshelves and there has been a lot of space and for studying there has a table & chair. The whole room is air-conditioned and painted well. Our classroom size is perfect according to the students. We can seat one student per bench. And the large glass window so the room is filled with natural light. We have a table tennis room and other sports activities available. The campus is big & good. We have a student union.

Placement Experience:

Actually this is a general degree University , so I must mention that placement facalities are not so good. But yes , Job Fair is organised in University by some external agencies which offer jobs varying 2-2.5 lakhs per annum . But in the university most of the students do not accept that jobs. Half of the students are more interested on the higher studies. So ahet completing the fourth semester they prepare for PhD. And the another half are preparing for central government sponsored exams like CGL, CHSL, RRB, SBI , IBPS, LIC etc. University has a significant number of students who have qualified for Government Competitive exams.

Course Curriculum Overview:

My decision to choose this course depended on the fact that this course provides you with the opportunity to get various jobs in the industries with a high lpa. But this college does not help much in that aspect. All I had to do was myself. It is my humble opinion that the institution should improve its guidance in the area of its teaching methods. The exams were twice a year and were quite difficult on their own.

Biotechnology is a highly demanding course in today's world. The syllabus for this course is mostly around bookish knowledge and you have to gather outside knowledge on your own. There must be an internship for every student arranged by department itself in various other institues or labs for practical work experience.
