Remarks
It's an old institution established in 1961 by the West Bengal government in the northern part of West Bengal just under the lap of Himalayas. Students who have scored well in the entrance exam get the opportunity to join JGEC hence a peer group of smart people. Also a strong alumni base which is spread across the globe.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course is roughly based on the the MAKAUT syllabus. But now there are subtle changes in the course structure since 2016 when the college gained autonomous status. In terms of faculty we had a healthy number of professors for each department with in depth knowledge in their subjects. We had the opportunity to go for industrial training during our 5th semester.
Placement Experience
Students get opportunities from variety of sectors namely IT, Construction, Telecommunication, Design etc. Major part of the recruitment happens in the sixth semester. Recruiters like TCS, Cognizant, Shapoorji Pallonji constructions, Jacobs, Ericsson, Idea etc have recruited students from JGEC
College Events
The campus is a world of its own. Students from all around the nation stay in four different hostels during the four years of the curriculum. Classes start from 10:00AM in the morning and end at 4:00 PM. Though out the year we have different festival and events namely JECLAT, Sristi, Rangotsav which engages all the students to be activities giving a breather from the rigorous academics.
Campus Life
The campus is spread across 300 acres full of greenery. There are four hostels to accommodate the students. Two playing fields namely oval and lords shopping with a basketball court and a properly equipped gym are there for the sports and fitness enthusiasts. On the academic side we have several labs and workshops present for each department.
Hostel Facilities
There are four hostels, three are for boys and one for girls each having their own mess. The hostels are spacious and comfortable with washrooms available at each wing. Food is severed at the mess which is on the ground floor everyday. Junior students need to share their rooms with two to three people quickly in the final year you can have a single room for each student.The rent for the hostel is roughly twelve thousand rupees for a semester which is quite economical for its services.
