Doing Master's at LBC

I did my graduation at LBC and got so delighted with the experience that I decided to pursue my PG here only. LBC has been ranked 50th by IndiaToday and 39th by The Week 2021 for their respective Arts rankings 2021. The college works under University of Calcutta and also has NAAC accreditation to its name. Admission to the MA- PS course at LBC is based on the Merit in the qualifying exam.

When I was thinking about my graduation program I had to research a lot but at the time of PG I just decided to go further in tje field by pursuing a Master's in the same domain which is why I chose MA Political Science. The course was of 2 Years and had a total of 4 semesters. The faculty of our department was really passionate and they were all Doctorate degree holders. It was really a great time period to do my PG in the same college where I did my UG degree.

Yes, I have worked in Internships but not through college. I joined one of the many online methods to search for work opportunities and It certainly helped me to get good experience and confidence. I worked in an unpaid internship but due to my good work they offered me another Internship but this time it was Paid.

The Placement drive is organised annually for Final year students and most of the recruiters belong to the Commerce field. Being from Political Science, I was aware there wouldn't be that high chance of placements and thus I haven't appeared in the round. I had a well built future plan and wanted to work continuously to achieve that. During 2020, the average package for the college was nearly INR 3 LPA. Firms such as IBM, Tech Mahindra, Cognizant etc visit LBC for placement.

Various Scholarships are there such as, Memorial Prize (Roma Chaudhuri) which is given to the best Academic performer are available at LBC, Kolkata. The college also has Govt based Merit scholarships. However,the total fee for the MA degree here is INR 27,174 & students can easily afford it even without any such financial benefit.

The thing that I liked the most about the college was that it helped students to avail good academic knowledge and also grow their personalities through the co-curricular activities organised. The Student Welfare Committee took care of all student related issues and there were separate cells for Sports, Cultural and Industrial events. Our college library was filled with 1 Lac+ books across Art's,Science and Commerce fields. Along with that, a canteen, auditorium was also there at LBC.

The college has a Hostel situated just beside the college premises and it is given to students belonging to Outstations. The hostel includes well organised Mess facilities and the quality as well as taste of food is commendable. The rooms in the hostel are provided on sharing and for those seeking some additional facilities in the rooms extra fee is charged. However, the overall experience is good both in term of prices and services.

Students who have completed their Graduation in the field of Political Science are eligible for the MA -PS programme at LBC. Students who have completed their graduation with the minimum marks eligibility can apply and the selections are based entirely on the Merit prepared.
