Remarks

The admission process was online based on the merit of the previous degree. Candidates had to fill up an entire form of Calcutta University and according to the cut-off marks, different affiliated colleges were assigned to the candidates. Cut off of Maulana Azad college for M.Sc Zoology in 2020 went to 78.4%.

Course Curriculum Overview

I chose the course because it was the best college providing M.Sc in Zoology in Kolkata. Faculty: student ratio is 1:4. All the facilities in Maulana Azad College have completed their Ph.D. and they conduct smart classes for teaching us. Term exams are in the form of semesters, recurring after every 6 months. Faculties clear our doubts nicely, so it is not difficult to pass the exam.

Internships Opportunities

There are a lot of seminars held at the college giving students an opportunity to shine in the field of Science. Stipends are given as Junior Research Fellowship after cracking NET/GATE or relevant exams.

Placement Experience

Since the courses offered by the college are not professional, very few companies come for placements. Mostly, research scholarships are offered to some students who are scientific and good with academics. 3-4% of students get placed. Companies that come for placements are oracle, Infosys, etc. Nat Geo Wild and other such platforms also appear to give students a chance to choose such careers. I am doing M.Sc in Zoology currently.

Fees and Financial Aid

The fees structure is nominal (Rs. 2300 per semester). Kanyashree and other types of scholarships are available for West Bengal students. Infosys, Oracle, and many such companies come to hire students who are in their end semesters.

Campus Life

Life at the campus is peaceful. Fests are done every year. There are many events taking place throughout the year along with inter-college competitions. Library websites are very helpful for students having almost all the books for all the departments in the college.

Placement Experience:

Actually this is a general degree University , so I must mention that placement facalities are not so good. But yes , Job Fair is organised in University by some external agencies which offer jobs varying 2-2.5 lakhs per annum . But in the university most of the students do not accept that jobs. Half of the students are more interested on the higher studies. So ahet completing the fourth semester they prepare for PhD. And the another half are preparing for central government sponsored exams like CGL, CHSL, RRB, SBI , IBPS, LIC etc. University has a significant number of students who have qualified for Government Competitive exams.

Placement Experience:

Actually Some of the Local Companies & Private banks Offer placements which are averagely worth 250000/-. Some of the Students appear for it , but the Number is Very less. Actually In Present Circumstances , Most students wants a stable Government, Especially Central Gov job . So they Prepare for exams like SSC , SBI , IBPS, LIC , RRB etc.

Placement Experience:

2nd year students are eligible for the campus placement. Sai, Hetero, mendine, dr. Reddys etc companies visities for the campus placement. Offers ranges from 5-12 lpa. 60% students gets placed, 10% goes for higher studies and others get job off campus in my department. Other departments has 100% placement. My plans are pHd from Niper as it provides vast knowledge and instrumental exposure.

Course Curriculum Overview:

My decision to choose this course depended on the fact that this course provides you with the opportunity to get various jobs in the industries with a high lpa. But this college does not help much in that aspect. All I had to do was myself. It is my humble opinion that the institution should improve its guidance in the area of its teaching methods. The exams were twice a year and were quite difficult on their own.

From the 2nd last semester, that is the final year, students become eligible for campus placements. Last year, two of our seniors got placed at Reborn Child Development Centre (Durgapur and Asansol) with an average package of Rs 200,000. This year, three students of our batch, including me, got an internship for three months at Reborn through an in-person interview.
