Remarks

Eligibility for MBBS is 12th STD/Intermediate +2, Science (Biology) The entrance Exam is Through NEET-UG (Nationwide entrance exam for entry into medical colleges. Until 2019, institutes such as AIIMS and JIPMER had their own entrance exams.) Seat allocation will be done via NEET-UG's seat counselling program, which is online, and takes place after the results the same is announced. Application fees: Very minimal, roughly Rs. 10,000 at admission, plus hostel fees if availed. NRIs/OCIs pay USD 75,000 as a one-time admission fee for the course. Application dates - depends on the NEET exam. The schedule has been altered due to the COVID pandemic. The admission process is relatively smooth. Ensure you have ALL documents ready for counselling to avoid last-minute panicking. Admission fees are paid immediately after counselling at JIPMER Campus.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

I chose this course out of interest and passion for Biology, especially in medicine. Medicine is also regarded as a special course in today's society, and is somewhat a matter of pride. Faculty: Student ratio - roughly 10 professors + 20 residents for a batch strength of 187 students [approx 1:20 for professors and 1:10 for resident doctors] The term exams are standardized and scheduled well in advance, making them on time, and giving students adequate time to prepare for the same. Exam difficulty - internal assessments are set at a somewhat higher level to ensure better reading of the students, but most students who put in a genuine effort will pass and do well in exams. Finals papers are set to a moderate difficulty and the departments will try to pass students who show that they have studied and attended classes regularly.

Internships Opportunities

3.5

The internship is restricted to JIPMER only. An MBBS graduate has to undergo an internship compulsorily for one year (as per NMC guidelines). Stipend: 30000/month for 12 months. Interns are posted in various departments of the institute (medicine, surgery, obgyn, paediatrics, emergency, etc) to gain clinical experience.

Fees and Financial Aid

Fees have not been hiked thus far. The overall fee is nominal. For open-category students: Tuition fee - Rs. 1200 Students' Association fee: Rs. 2000 Learning Resource fee - Rs. 2000 Corpus Fund fee: Rs. 70 Student Information System Fund: Rs. 1500 Total: Rs. 6700 At the end of the MBBS course, there is a compulsory internship of one year at the institute. Stipend: Rs. 30000/month No other internships can be pursued during this time.

Campus Life

5

Annual Fest: SPANDAN - one of the largest fests in South India, spanning over a whole week, usually in September. Nearly 5000 students attended Spandan 2022. JIPMER also hosts an academic fest - Connaisance, usually held in Spring (February/March). It has been cancelled temporarily due to COVID. The central library is extensive, offers free WiFi, is centrally air conditioned, and also offers access to research journals and other literature through JIPMER's subscriptions. Classrooms are AC-ed, and were only renovated last year. The technology is up to date, classes are taken on PPTs. Sports: JIPMER has its own stadium, where football, cricket and hockey matches are held. Cricket nets have been newly installed. The JIPMER hostel complex also has a sports complex with a Futsal ground, Tennis court, and two Basketball courts, along with a Table Tennis hall. JIPMER also has a Yoga centre. Extracurriculars - Many clubs are present, such as Art, Dance, Dramatics, Photography, Debating, Academics

Hostel Facilities

2.5

Rooms - Two students per person, space is decent, and cupboards and desks are provided for storage. Students will later be shifted to single rooms in higher years. Common bathroom facilities. No AC in hostel rooms. Table fans are definitely needed in summertime. Mess - Not appealing to most students, but they may continue to eat messy food due to a lack of alternatives. Meal quality is moderate-to-poor. Many students often order food or subscribe to outside messes. Hostel fees - registration is at the time of admission. Hostel fees are Rs. 12000, which is affordable for most students.
