Admission into MBBS course on the basis of NEET-UG scores. The application is available on the NTA website. Counselling is done by JIPMER, which is readily updated on the JIPMER website. Horizontal as well as Vertical Reservations are present. Seats are reserved for Pondicherry domicile students as well. Please take note that JIPMER is one of the earliest colleges to initiate counselling and hence check the website for regular updates.

The choice of MBBS here can be made due to the excellent patient footfall and the esteemed faculty available here who are ever so ready to teach. The faculty-student ratio depends upon the year, of course, the student is in and on average is 1 per 10 students. Faculty members are eminent doctors known throughout India. Many of the faculty members have authored books which are used as Holy Grail for said subject throughout India. JIPMER is known to be strict with academics. A proper schedule of mid-semester and end-semester exams is followed. Difficulty of passing varied with each exam.

Internship as an MBBS Student is done in JIPMER hospital itself. For rural and urban postings, JIPMER RHC and UHC are used respectively. Internship in JIPMER is regarded as a very intense and stimulating period of work activity.

JIPMER being a government college comes out to be very affordable in monetary terms. Major expenses after joining would be on food and stay rather than the college tuition per se. Major fee hikes are uncommon. Most charges are nominal when compared to what would be considered normal for a given service.

Late August/ Early September witnesses JIPMER's inter-college fest, Spandan. Spandan in all its glory is the largest fest conducted by a medical College in South India. Spandan attracts multiple esteemed colleagues for participation and is definitely one of the most sought-after time periods in a student's life here. Connaissance is the Scientific meet conducted in JIPMER, usually happening in Late January or early February. Central Library is well-funded and abundant with books. Online library access has also been provided. The library is regularly updated with the latest journals. Classrooms are centrally air-conditioned with a seating capacity of 280 on average. Two big projector screens with a central blackboard are present. Sound systems are installed in each classroom for convenience. 2 Basketball courts, 2 Volleyball courts, a Tennis court, a table tennis hall, Futsal Court, Football/Cricket Ground and a swimming pool are present. Both single and double rooms are available. Few hostels provide attached bathrooms and some are with common bathrooms. Basic amenities like a cot, cupboard, and fans are already provided. Mess works on active feedback and meal quality is in constant flux based on student response. Both North Indian and South Indian food is available. Following admission, hostel rooms can be availed upon contact with Hostel Incharges. These are usually done in a group for the incoming batch.
