Remarks
I entered the college based on my WBJEE rank. I 8974 rank in the General Merit list and got this branch. Students can also get admission based on their JEE ranks and in my branch which is civil engineering one can easily get admission if he/she has a JEE percentile of 93-96. The counseling is of two types, the first based on WBJEE rank and the other based on JEE rank. The WBJEE exam happens generally a month later than the second JEE and the application form costs 500. As this college is in Kolkata and comes under WBJEE, if you are from Bengal then you can get this branch at a rank as higher as 17-18k under your home state reservation quota. The admission process is very systematic and punctual but you will have to constantly check new notifications and dates online.
Course Curriculum Overview
I chose this college as this college is one of the best in Kolkata and probably the best autonomous college based on ROI. In my branch, the faculty members are awesome. All the faculty members are very supportive and helpful but strict at the same time. All the classes and labs are proper and there is a GATE-oriented environment in the college. Most of the faculty members have PHDs and if any student is preparing for GATE then I don't think he/she will have to take any coaching classes. The exams are the USP of Heritage. It is popularly said that if any student is scoring a 9 CGPA in any other college then it is equal to a 7 CGPA of Heritage. The exams are conducted in a very strict manner and are tough to crack. Even during the online exams, the average class CGPA was 7-8. But, the environment is very hectic. You will have to maintain 75 percent attendance and the curriculum is loaded with assignments. So don't imagine some movie-like chill College life.
Internships Opportunities
The internship opportunities are good but only in tech branches like CS and IT. There are very few opportunities in the core branches and in that too stipend is negligible and sometimes no stipend. Our seniors in Mechanical and civil engineering have two sections but the college has cut off the sections to one as there are poor placement stats in core departments like Civil and Mechanical.
Fees and Financial Aid
The first semester has a fee of Rs 72200 and thereafter the second semester and thirst semester have a fee of 42000. There is a slight hike in the semesters after that. The total fee for the four-year course is Rs 400000. There is no scholarship based on merit on campus. However, one can get a discount on the fee if he/she is financially weak. I don't know the exact criteria but yes, some of my friends have availed of that scheme. This course or any course of this college is eligible for all the state-based loan and scholarship schemes. I have got a loan under the Bihar Government Student Credit card scheme and there was no problem from the college side.
Campus Life
The college is best known for its fests and cultural activities. The Annual fest Ecletia is considered to be the best Annual fest in Kolkata. Also, the fresher is a 3-day long fest which is called Nascent. It is also the best freshers in Kolkata. But I am in my second year and I have seen none of them. Usually, Ecletia happens around April-May. The college has 3 buildings. All the buildings have proper elevator systems and are connected via a bridge. Toilets and drinking water facilities are available. The library is a big 20000 sq. feet air-conditioned with books from all genres. The semester books and previous year's exam papers are provided by the library and you can borrow any book you like. The campus has a good canteen where you can spend time and munch something, however, there are very less places to chill. The campus has a cricket ground and the basketball infrastructure is the best. There are several clubs like the photography club, Rotaract, Google developer societies, Literature club, etc.
Other Applied Colleges
Institute of Engineering and Management - [IEM] | Bachelor of Technology [B.Tech] (Mechanical Engineering)
I didn't opt for this college as IEM has no campus life, literally the whole college is in one building and the curriculum is too strict.
