Remarks
Decent college, good campus life, No night life unless you have a car, There are places to hangout at night but i will left it on you to figure that out Cooperating staff, good placements.
Entrance Preview
I took JEE Mains in 2013. I scored around 167 in it and my AIR was exactly 40,941. I wanted to pursue CSE so i opted GNDU. It was best at this rank for CSE only considering government institute. Thapar is better than it if you want to shell out more money.
Course Curriculum Overview
Course curriculum is skewed like any other engineer college curriculum. Actually they have to comply with the standard, so none of them can actually update the syllabus arbitrary. I would suggest to score a good Cgpa even if the syllabus is outdated because it will help you in applying for MS in foreign universities and will also help you on crossing prerequisites of certain companies. Plus even if you want to pursue MBA from top B-Schools in India, your CGPA will be invaluable asset that will play a long role n starting your career.
Internships Opportunities
Most opportunities will be sent you via mail. It's all upon you how you grab that opportunities. I will refer you to keep participating in all the national level events. Keep your links healthy with the people at IITs because they are more aware about such events. Start building your profile right from your first day at GNDU. General stipend is around 5-10k(On Campus) but it can also go upto 20k(Off Campus).
Placement Experience
You will get plenty of job opportunities here and almost all the students get placed by the end of the degree. Most of them are placed at the package of 3-4 lacs per annum. Capgemini, Tcs are mass recruiters in GNDU. You need not worry about on campus placement. You should focus on how you can grab a better one and how can make a stellar profile that will speak out for you. There are plenty of job opportunities outside campus, just be proactive enough to realize this fact and work for it.
College Events
The major event is Jashan. It is a cultural fest and is organized every even semester. Try taking part in maximum number of events because they also go a long way in your profile. You will find every type of cultural activity - Western dance, Folk Dance, Bhangra, Gidha, Western Vocals, folk songs, Mimicry, Debates, Quizzes and lots more.Besides Jashan, GNDU also participates in the Youth fest which is also similar in context but is inter college event and other universities also participate in it. It is organized every odd semester.
Fee Structure And Facilities
Fee structure constitutes almost 1 lac every year for tuition fees, i.e for both the semesters. then there is hostel fees around 18-20k which is very nominal and mess charges costitute around 1200(fixed) and 800-900 over it if you eat daily without breaks. I bet you won't be able to eat on daily basis. It is quite in-expensive as compared to other private schools. i will suggest you to make the best out of it.
Fees and Financial Aid
You will get opportunity of half or full fee concession if you are really very poor or just you can show that on papers :P. You will be informed about it and you will just have to fill this form. All the forms are available at stationary shop which is below library. Then you will have a interview and that's it. They will decide how much scholarship will you get.
Campus Life
You will have to go outside college to participate in such activities. There are student societies like CESS and ESF, but they lag in the quantity and quality of participation so it is better you should start getting national level exposure rather than sticking to competing with your classmates.
Hostel Facilities
Hostel facilities are not quite good. But they are also not the worst. In first year you get 4 seater room which was actually meant to be a 2-seater and 2nd year onwards you get a 2-seater room which was obviosly meant for a single person.Mess food, breakfast is ok, you will skip it most of the times so you need not worry about it. Lunch is good atleast better than both breakfast and dinner. And here comes the pathetic dinner. You will hate it my friend. But yeah, that's the way of life. P.S. You have a TT table, a common room to watch football and ground to play volleyball and badminton. So it is not that bad.
Alumni/Alumna
Alumni is very good. Seniors are helpful but the thing is that the network is not organized. We are working over this aspect and have taken particular measures to transform GNDU into a better university. Overall rich Alumni, By the time you will graduate, GNDU will be at another peak.
Exam Structure
GNDU has a semester system. First there are minors which are of 20 marks each. There are two minor examination and both are mandatory. You can reschedule your minor under unavoidable circumstances. Be brave enough to take your case to your teachers, they are cooperative enough. After minors you have practicals and internals. Internals contribute 10 marks to your respective subjects. Usually 5 marks are for assignment and 5 marks are alloted to quiz. Practicals have their own fare share. Try maximizing practical marks. And finally Major exams of 50 marks at the end of semester.
Admission
At that time i had to enroll for PTU admission process but now GNDU has a separate admission process. You need to register online and apply there after paying the fees. It is quite similar to that of NITs. You will find the link in the admission tab. One important information is that while attending the counselling, you have to pay the fees on the spot and you have to apply for college hostel only there. If you failed to do so, it will pose a great difficulty for you to get hostel at the later stage. Make sure that you register yourself for hostel facilities in case you are sure to join
Faculty
Faculty is good but you have to realize that you are already at a loss for not studying from an iit or nit. So better start working on some research works. Faculty will help you write if you are capable enough. Some teachers like Priyanka ma'am are really good. They are really cooperative and will provide you with enough insight. Mr. Sandeep Sharma is the Head of Department is highly qualified. Try to take a guidance from him about where to drive your career. Chetan Marwaha sir has stellar stance in programming. You can learn a lot from him
