Remarks
The students have to give the CAT (Common Aptitude Test) as the entrance exam. On clearing the cutoff, the students are then given a rank and asked to give in their preference order for the departments they want. The rank obtained by the candidate and also the marks obtained by them in their 12th std boards act as a factor in getting the department of your choice. There are four quotas through which a student can join the dept - state merit, all-India merit, NRI, and reservation. Fees a candidate has to pay per semester depending on the quota they have joined through. A student gets three chances to get into their dream department.
Course Curriculum Overview
The reason I chose Information Technology was that coding fascinates me. The faculty of the IT department in our college are quite knowledgeable, with 4 of them having a Ph.D. and quite a few patents in their name. Exams were conducted regularly.
Internships Opportunities
CUSAT has got a tie-up with the Japanese government where worthy student can intern in Japan off-line. The placement drive also regularly informs the students about the internship opportunities which are present right now in the corporate world, ranging from various start-ups to well established companies.
Placement Experience
A student becomes eligible to attend campus placements from their 7th semester. Some of the companies which visit SOE are Larsen and Toubro, Cisco, Tata Elxsi, Prevelant AI, Experion, Hashedln, and Qualities. The packages start from Rs 4L p.a. to Rs 32L p.a. The 2018-2022 batch of the Information Technology department recorded a 100% placement record. My plans after getting a degree is to pursue a career in Web3 and maybe try to crack the UPSC exam.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fees paid by a student depend on the quota they are in. Students with state merit have to pay around Rs 25,000 per semester whereas students with All India merit have to pay close to Rs 46,000 per semester. Students in the NRI quota have to pay Rs 53,000 per semester and students with reservations only have to pay less than Rs 1000 per semester. Eligible candidates can apply for scholarships, depending on their marks or the annual family income.
Campus Life
CUSAT organizes many fests each year. School of engineering specifically conducts Dhishna (Techfest). Sargam is the arts and cultural fest organized by the college. The university library houses books of pretty much all genres and also has many journals based on various departments. Our university is also focused on extracurricular activities, Kurukshetra (University sports tournament), and department sports tournaments to name a few. Cusat has got many clubs like space club, readers club, etc.
