Remarks

For people planning to go for CSE or IT, then don't hesitate. You will find some very good faculties here and good supportive environment for studies.Teachers will constantly encourage you to think big, and motivate you to achieve big.

Entrance Preview

I gave OJEE and got around 300 rank in out state category. Based on my rank I got admission, through OJEE counselling. There was no interview. OJEE notification will be out around March end. I was sure I have to go for CSE branch. I joined silicon because of its GATE performance. I was sure that I had to give GATE exam, and Silicon, had a good reputation in this field. GATE 2010 AIR 1 CSE Arindam was from silicon. Hence, I was sure this college can give me ample opportunities to achieve my GATE dream. In addition to GATE, I had also heard that CSE branch is very good here.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

I can only account for my branch CSE. I found the course curriculum to be good, mostly the syllabus is inline with the IITs, now I think it has changed. I can say about the course structure I had, but that would mostly be useless now, as the course structure has changed for the new batches from 2015.

Internships Opportunities

No, my college doesn't provides internship. But for those who want, our faculties, and Placement coordinators can guide them. Mostly students, invest time in preparations for GATE, IES and PSUs.

Placement Experience

3

Infosys and Wipro are the mass recruiters. They come on Day 1 and recruite almost 60-70% people. In my year, infosys gave 150 offers, and wipro gave 295 offers. i.e on day 1 itself close to 350 of 500 students were placed. Some also had two offeres. After these companies, there are others such as capegemini, Mindtree and many more companies come. The highest package was offered by Mindnfire, which gave 4.2lpa. Many students also gofor GATE, CAT and PSUs. Most of the eligible students got placed.

College Events

4

Noesksis: A event lasting three days, filled with competitions like Robowar, Robosoccer, Corporate roadies, bell the cat, get the gate and many more. We have many good sponsers and the participation is good. These event takes place in day time and during night we have performance by different branches, on each day. Its fun filled. Rhytmika: A event organised by music club. They have many cool events.Apart from other musical events we also do have, Entrepreneurship cell, which keeps organizing events. We also have some International conferences, and events organized. Poster Presentation, Green Energy projects by Green club.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The academic fees would be around 1.6 lakh per annum. It is to be paid at the beginning of each odd semester. There is a hostel fees around 30000 yearly to be paid at the beginning of each odd semester, for students opting for hostels.Mess charges has to be paid monthly, it comes around 3000, for hostel people. For day scholars who opt only for lunch, it comes around 1000 monthly. For day scholars, there is a transportation charge of 12000 which is to be paid irrespective of whether day scholars, use college bus or not.Roughly speaking for hostels, the yearly expenditure is around 2.15 lpa.

Fees and Financial Aid

Yes the college does provide, fee waiver for students not economically strong.Scholarship are provided to top two students doing well in each branch of 12000.(Might would have increased now)

Campus Life

4

The gender ratio is roughly 1:1.The campus is very happening. There are many clubs, like photography club, Music club, Robotics club, green club, book lovers club etc. There is Gym, two basket ball, two volleyball courts, and a ground where cricket and football clubs practice. The football and cricket team take parts in many tournaments. We are champions in Basketball and volleyball. There are indoor tournaments as well, like carrom board, badminton, table tennis etc. Many cultural activities keeps happening each year. Quiz club and Entrepreneurship club organises many events.

Hostel Facilities

3

Hostel facilities are good, recently a new hostel has been created for boys.Rooms are sharing, in first year four students share a room. From second year own-wards three people share a room. Hostels are having three floors no lift.Cleanliness, is maintained is hostels ( cleaned everyday). 24hrs power supply. There is one common room having TV. There is no wifi in hostels. In hostels there is entry time of usually upto 7pm for boys. There are many PG's available nearby. Roughly cost of food and rent monthly is around 5k.

Alumni/Alumna

We have a very strong alumni network. We have a facebook group of siliconites worldwide. They keep posting about new opportunities. They often visit college and guide us as well. Once every year around December a reunion of students takes place.During my preparation for GATE, I did came in contact with one of my seniors who is in a top university in Canada, and have completed his PhD, there. He gave me some valuable inputs regarding MTech in India vs MS abroad. How I need to prepare.

Exam Structure

Now, the exam structure has changed.I can only tell about what it was in my time. So, one lab session lasts for 3 hours. Labs are good, well equipped. Not with the latest equipment's, but sufficiently good.Exams were like we had two unit test, 15 marks each, and one final term of 70 marks. Lab marks were based on each lab session performance and final lab exam.

Admission

Once the OJEE exam results are declared, in one or two weeks, the admission portal on OJEE website will open. In that I signed up, and filled up the required documents and other details. The results are announced around second week of may. Then I also had to fill my preferences, with respect to different colleges and branch. I filled up three choices, first CS at silicon, second ECE at silicon, and third CS at CV Raman.

Faculty

4.5

I found CS faculties very good with their knowledge in the subject. They are very encouraging and helping. Explains the concepts, in a simple way. Are always approachable, offline for clearing doubts. They will always encourage students, who come with some ideas. Motivate students to aim high. Aim for CAT, GATE, IES etc. You can even approach, the Dean academics, or HODs of respective branch, fearlessly, and they will guide you well.

I would rate the placements at my college as 3 out of 5. Students usually become eligible for campus placements from the sixth or seventh semester, and a few well-known companies do visit the campus every year. The placement cell helps with basic training like resume building and interviews, and many students, especially from IT branches, manage to secure jobs. At the same time, the average salary packages are not very high and top roles are limited, so a lot of students also focus on skill development, off-campus opportunities or higher studies after completing their degree

Students are eligible for placement from their 3rd year onwards. It has been only 2-3 months but I have seen several companies arriving at the college, prominent ones being Flipkar,Deloitte, Xerox, TCS, Wipro, Infosys, Microsoft, Dell and several others including startups. There is no accurate data on how many offers have been made this year, but there are rumours that more than 95% of the eligible students have got placements. After getting a degree my plans are if I dont land into a satisfying job then I will start my preparation of the military or start a new business.
