I chose this course after discussing it with my coaching teachers, a few seniors from IITs, and relatives, and also because according to my rank, the Mechanical department was the best I would have got at IIT Bombay. Also, I was quite interested in motors and the mechanics behind them. The faculty-student ratio is approximately 16-18 students per faculty which are quite decent. The minimum qualification to be a faculty at IIT Bombay is a Ph.D. Most of the faculties here are highly qualified and have taken degrees from the world's top few colleges or universities. The teaching method of the faculty is very good, slides are provided for every lecture. Tutorial problems with solutions are there for a better grasp of the concepts. There are teaching assistants for each course whom we can contact at any time for any academic queries/ issues/ doubts. There are two term exams - mid-sem and Endsem. Midsem is conducted approximately mid-way through the semester (approx. 2 months after sem starts) and end-sem at the end.

Many top companies including Google, Amazon, Microsoft, Jane Street, Optiver, Quadeye, etc. come for recruiting interns offering stipends as high as 12-14lakhs per month. The average stipend is around 50,000-1,00,000 per month.

Students can sit for placements in their pen ultimate semester, i.e., B.Tech UGs in their 7th sem and Dual Degree students in their 9th sem. More than 250 top companies come for recruitment including companies like Microsoft, Google, Amazon, Apple, Morgan Stanley, JP Morgan, Goldman Sachs, etc. offering packages in crores as well. More than 1,000 offers are made almost every year. More details about placement stats can be found in the brochure released by the IIT Bombay placement office every year on the official IIT Bombay website. The average package is approximately 15 lacs per annum. Profiles related to IT offer more job offers and provide relatively higher packages. Almost 85-90% of students are placed and the remaining few opt for higher studies. I am planning to get a job temporarily for 1-2 years for financial support which I might need for doing MS from a foreign university/college.

1,20,000 (approx.) is the fee per sem currently including hostel fees. If you opt for mess-in facilities, you will have to pay 22,000 per sem additionally. There are scholarships available to students from underprivileged backgrounds. There are three types of scholarships available - Named Scholarship, Merit cum Means (MCM) Scholarship, and Remission of fees. Named and MCM scholarships are decided by income and merit combined and not everyone who fills out the application form is sure to get that but remission of fees is given to everyone eligible. The eligibility criteria for all are income less than 5 lakhs. Also, a student cannot get more than one scholarship simultaneously.

There are a plethora of fests and events conducted throughout the entire sem (except exam weeks). Mood Indigo is our college's annual cultural festival and is also Asia's largest college cultural festival with a footfall of more than 1 lakh visitors from colleges across India and artists from all across the globe perform in this festival. It is a 4-day event conducted at the end of every year (20-30 Dec) popularly called '4-din ka Sapna' in our instill's the lingo. Techfest is our college's annual technical festival with a plethora of technical events, showcases, robot fights, etc. It is also Asia's largest college technical festival with visitors and artists from all across the globe. Almost all the books that one may need are available in the library. There are 24*7 study rooms available. The classrooms are very good and well maintained, probably one of the best classrooms in India. All kinds of indoor and outdoor sports facilities are available. There are many student-run clubs.

The hostel facility is up to the mark according to the rent they charge which is very minimal considering the charges in Mumbai. We are provided with well-furnished rooms, we are only required to bring our utility luggage and accessories. Mess food is very nice with very diverse meals, special food is available for Jain students. The hostel is very affordable and every student of IIT Bombay is given a hostel facility.

Two exams need to be cleared to get admission to IIT Bombay subject to cutoff ranks for different branches - JEE Mains and JEE Advanced. All the 12th boards appearing students are eligible to write JEE Mains and JEE Advanced. Also, students who passed the 12th board a year before appearing in the exam are eligible to write both exams. If a candidate clears JEE Mains, then only he/she/they will be allowed to write JEE Advanced. The application form is released at the official websites of JEE Mains and Advanced. There are reserved seats for female students as well as students from PwD, SC/ST, OBC-NCL, and Gen-EWS category, and detailed cutoffs for each sub-category is released by the IITs on the official JEE Advanced website.
