Course Curriculum Overview

5

So, it generally starts that you get a branch with your rank, now branch change has stopped completely. But with time, once i entered the second year, i started liking my branch and by the time my second semester ended, thy way my profssors taught completely changed my persective, and i am in love with m branch and want to pursue it as a career. This was an amazing tranition, and a main thing being, i never hesitated to take hellp, and it helps :)

Internships Opportunities

3

I am yet to do my 3rd year internship. Companies like BASDF, HTE , Zeiss, Piramal, HUL, ITC, PnG come to campus for campus internships for the chemical department. They offer 10-12 weeks on nternships and assign projects and industry mentors.

Placement Experience

2

Semester 7 is when the placement season starts, and sem 5 onwards you can appear for internship season. The highest package goes in crores but mostly in cse department, others not IT jobs have reletively lower packages avarage being 20 LPA. Almost 60 percent and above students get placed in my guess. I am planning to work in a chemical process design firm.

Fees and Financial Aid

Semester fees is 119000 and an extra 22500 for mess payment for one semester. This is all we need to pay for 1 semester and rst personal expenses are subjective to different people. There are various categories and there are discounts for fees based on that. There is a merit cum need scholarship, various ngo and bank scholorships, scholorships for girls in economically weaker sections. Scholarships :- 1. merit cum means scholarship - this is avaialble for students from conomically weaker sections 2. Institute free studentship- covers tution fees for students from low income backgrounds 3. SC/ST Scholarship - Tutuion fees are fully waived off and additional financtial assistance for mess and hostel fees 4. Loan Facilities General /OBC/ EWS Tutuion fees - 1,00,000 Medical Fees 1950 examination fees 2200 registeration fees 900 gymkhana fees 2200 student benevolent fund 700 student accident insurance fund 300 total 107350 mess and hostel 22500

Campus Life

5

There are three major fests, techfest, mood indigo and e-summit. They are conducted in december and january. Now a days almost all textbooks are available online, but there are 2-4 copies of textbooks at the IIT Bombay central library. The classes have digital boards where profs can teach interactively. There are world class sports facilities in the gymkhana complex. There are multiple clubs which can be found when students come into the college in their first year.

Hostel Facilities

2

Hostels are compulsary. We have laundary facilities, general stores in hostels, and mess for food needs. The mess quality is not that great, but managable. The menu has variety. The cleaning from hostel side is done once a month. Rest on daily basis if you need has to be done yourself.

Admission

Since I got IIT Bombay, this means that all other IIT s were open to me, my trade of was between college and branch, I was confused if i should take CSE in a new IIT or Chemical in IIT Bombay,, and I chose the institute, also because I reside in bombay. And i feel others should also choose a better college if they are not 100 percent sure about what course they really are passionate about.

Faculty

5

There are 44 faculty in my department, and there are around 800 students entirely. Prof Sanjay Mahajani is by far the best faculty of my departmnt and it is a privilage to be in his class. Some faculties re strict and focus more on policies, but overall, even if you are stuck at basics, the faculties put in their 100 percent efforts if the students reach out to them. The exam pattern is genrally 4 quizzes of 20 percent 30 percent midsem and 50 percent endsems.

Night Life

3

The campus sleeps at 4am i would say. All night canteens are functioning till around 4 am. There are multiple chilling out locations like lakeside jalvihar and infinity corridoor. There are no in/out timings, no curfew for hostels or campus, as long as you have your id card, there are no restrictions. The campus is quite safe to move around, common hangout spots outside of iit bombay are in hiranandani complex, and mumbai is quite safe in general.

I choose this course because I have genuine interest in civil engineering. The faculty student ration is 1:50. Our faculties are well qualified they are master's degree holders in design and structural engineering. Some of them are PhD holders and many of them have done their master's from NIT and IIT. Term exams are scheduled after every 2 months. it is easy to pass because it consists of 30 marks only.
