Remarks

The fact of the matter is I personally had very low expectations from the college but it still managed to disappoint me.

Entrance Preview

JEE mains. Score. 100 This is the college where my dad and all if my uncle's who are engineers went to. So it was a natural choice for me.

Course Curriculum Overview

1.5

The course structure and the academic curriculum is almost identical to what the major colleges in India follow except for the fact that it is way more hectic here as you are always wary of bandhs and hartals. It mainly focused on your ability to understand the Crux of what you can expect in the corporate world with as little emphasis on practical knowledge as possible (which, by the way, is a drawback).

Internships Opportunities

On the internship front, I haven't seen any such thing on the college's front and even if there is such a thing available. I'm pretty sure that it is not up to the mark.

Placement Experience

2

Since it is an NIT, it is quite good in the placement department but only in selected departments (IT, Mechanical and CSE maybe). But other branches have a struggle after the completion of their degrees. But job availability for an NIT pass out is not a concern. It is actually the type or level of job that concerns oneself. All in all, I can frankly say that sky is the limit.

College Events

1.5

Being in the Kashmir region, there aren't a lot of cultural activities that take. Once in a while one might see a banner or something but that's just for the sake of showing people. There aren't a lot of technical fests either. The overall personality development that a college should focus upon is missing here and absolute concentration on textual knowledge is laid.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fee structure is fairly good, especially if you belong to a reservation category. The fees for a general student is 74000 for tuitions and 17000 for mess and hostel. But if you are from SC/ST category there is no tuition fees except for maybe the first semester and only 2500 fir the mess fee. If ones annual family incomer is less than 5 lakhs then monetary scholarships can be sought.

Fees and Financial Aid

There are plenty if scholarships available as I said earlier, especially if you belong to SC/ST it the OBC community. There are special scholarships for the economically challenged too.

Campus Life

1.5

The campus is life is average as this is Kashmir. There is a major difference in male and female students. Some celebrations are allowed but there no major parties or celebrations allowed. 'Everything had to be done in a modest way', this seems to be the motto of the college.

Hostel Facilities

2

The hostel is 70's style fashioned hostel with equally archaic facilities and with one too many students for a room (4 that is). But as it is, hostel is as good it gets. You meet knew people from different backgrounds and learn new things everyday. The mess is fairly good with vegetarian and non vegetarian options both present and for seniors it is really really good.

Alumni/Alumna

There is no alumni network whatsoever and the senior students are almost always way too busy help or even interact with the Juniors. But the seniors do help in times of need and struggle.

Exam Structure

The exam structure is very tedious, boring and typical. Instead of preparing us for the job market, it actually checks our memorization power. The way exams are conducted you feel like a cig in the machine. Instead of concentrating on what we've learned, it instead focuses on what we've retained.

Admission

There is actually a detailed admission process that is guided by the CBSE board itself and it's very hectic, to be frank. The forms were available at the college itself. An even though the process was hectic it was properly thorough too. The administration does provide you with guidelines and all but that's all the help that you should expect from them as the procedure is hectic for them too.

Faculty

1.5

Since the college has been there for more than 50 years, the faculty is quite good when it comes to the senior professors. They know their stuff well and you can expect some brilliant stuff from them but there is a major flaw that is, the contractual lecturers. These guys do not give their 100 percent ( or are not able to), this might be due to the fact that they are temporary and their work load is high and salary is low.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course is quiet relevant it covers all the important subjects and topics.I chose the Ece branch as the demand of semiconductors is rising in the future. The curriculum perpares us well for real world applications. The course teaches us a lot of outdated concepts but it misses out to teach about what is happening in the world right now. So the course can involve a lot of topics that are in trend.

Placement Experience:

Placemets start right from your 7th semester. Most comapnies that would come here would be like vedanta , ashok leyland etc etc who mainly do mass hiring, th no of offers are quite low as for durig my time most companies qul do diversity and hiring would only select girls and the girls were low in numbers as compared to the boys so each girl recieved atleast 2-3 offers while rarely a boy would even rev=cieve a single offer. The highest package was offered by Vedanta but it was 13 lpa in ct in hand it would be arond 5-6 lpa , the average package was also the same around 5-6 lakhs per annum. Percentage of students placed would be around 30 percent but they inflated the numbers heavily but showing only the students who were eleigible as boys were mostle ineligible. My plans are to look for masters somewhere abroad.
