Entrance Preview

AIEEE- ( AIR 49364). I got admission through All India rank. I participated in OJEE counselling and given first preference of Electrical and Electronics engineering and grabbed it.I choose this stream because this stream would give me various opportunities in future and the track record of this college is also quite good.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

The course structure is like that,we have subjects as physics, applied mathematics, basic mechanical engineering, English, environmental studies, workshop. And there is a two hours of lab daily of all the subjects, which helps us to focus in our aspected research. All the course subjects with both the theory as well as the practical part which gives a experience of learning more about the things dealth in the classes.

Internships Opportunities

So many MNC'S visiting for On-campus like Infosys, Tech Mahindra, Capgemini, TCS, Wipro. Off-campus like cognizant, Accenture , Zensar and so on...

Placement Experience

4

The placement is good and last year, 85% students got placed in companies like Infosys, Wipro, Cognizant, TCS etc. Some students were also placed in core companies like Satyam Semiconductor, Softronics etc. Last year, 8 lakhs was the highest package offered, 4.5 lakhs is the average package and 3.0 lakhs is the lowest package.

College Events

4.5

The awe inspiring story of Silicon Institute of Technology in achieving the status of a no-nonsense academic institution where discipline is the key word started just over a decade back. The institution has made giant leaps both in educational excellence and industrial expertise during its short yet exciting journey.Silicon holds in its fold a blend of academic achievements, industrial participation, entrepreneurship development and success in activities which go beyond teaching. The cultural extravaganza conducted once a year has increased in glamour over the years. Equally worth mentioning is the participation in sports events which has added on both volume and appeal over time. Silicon has been host to a plethora of workshops, Tech fest, Robotics club, seminars and celebrations.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fee structure for the lower middle class is not so feasible, as the per year tuition fee of the college is 135000/-and the hostel charges per annum is 30000 and the mess charges vary every month and have a avg of about 2500.The college is not providing any scholarships as I get the scholarship from my state as being OBC quota. About the loan facility of the college I didn't know very well about it.

Fees and Financial Aid

The college is not providing any scholarships as I get the scholarship from my state as being OBC quota. About the loan facility of the college I didn't know very well about it.

Campus Life

4

There is co-education in our college, the gender ratio is about 60-40. There are various workshop programs held in our college. In various fest's and other things there is equal participation of both male and females. There is no discrimination in any type of gender, cultural society, ethnicity, race, religion, sexual orientation, politics and economic status etc.

Hostel Facilities

4

One hostel for girls and two hostels for Boys are present. These hostels are in good conditions. Three students per room are allowed. At every floor, one caretaker lives in the girls' residence. The hostel costs around Rs 30000 per year. But it lacks reading room facilities and wifi. Non veg food item in the college canteen is good but veg items lack taste and quality compared to price. Breakfast, lunch and dinner cost around 80 bucks per day and 3K per month. Mostly students make home deliveries as the dinner is worst. This is the one where my college still needs to focus. The classrooms are well ventilated and lightened but with no ACs.The green boards are large. Each classroom has a clock and a projector. The library has also a good sitting capacity and wide varieties of newspapers, magazines, books, journals, etc. But during exam, it becomes very difficult to get access to the particular subject book as other students from other branches already took those books. The number of books of common subjects should be increased.

Alumni/Alumna

From silicon in 2010 GATE- AIR(1) was Arindam Bhattacharya. From my batch my two friends qualified for the UPSC( Engineering Services) Vikash Kumar ( AIR 34) and Deepanjan sarkar ( AIR 18).

Exam Structure

Silicon is affiliated by BPUT and they are authorized to conduct the semester exams. The exam structure is quite touch sometimes moderate. The examination section of our college is strict towards their work.the labs were sometimes frequent with a load .There are 3 to 4 cameras in all the examination halls. Two to three invigilators to inspect the students. The copies were even not checked by the college teachers it goes to anywhere else for evaluation.

Admission

First I appeared in AIEEE Exam and cracked it with the marks of 120 and got AIR(49564).I got admission through All India rank. I participated in OJEE counselling and given first preference of Electrical and Electronics engineering and grabbed it. I admitted at silicon on 11th Aug 2010.

Faculty

4.5

Silicon is known for their best faculty among all the colleges of Odisha All the faculties are not same but at the mode of giving knowledge all are a bit on the same level. Most of the teachers are qualified from IIT's and NIT's and were knowledged, interest of the teachers in teaching is good, but I the interest of our physics teacher in teaching is on the top.He elaborates all the things and make the students desperate for the respected topics to know more. Here I am naming some best faculties of Silicon Seema Behera ( EEE). R.P Panda (EEE), R.N Mishra ( EEE) , Prof. Ashok Tripathy ( EEE).

Placement Experience:

I would rate the placements at my college as 3 out of 5. Students usually become eligible for campus placements from the sixth or seventh semester, and a few well-known companies do visit the campus every year. The placement cell helps with basic training like resume building and interviews, and many students, especially from IT branches, manage to secure jobs. At the same time, the average salary packages are not very high and top roles are limited, so a lot of students also focus on skill development, off-campus opportunities or higher studies after completing their degree

Students are eligible for placement from their 3rd year onwards. It has been only 2-3 months but I have seen several companies arriving at the college, prominent ones being Flipkar,Deloitte, Xerox, TCS, Wipro, Infosys, Microsoft, Dell and several others including startups. There is no accurate data on how many offers have been made this year, but there are rumours that more than 95% of the eligible students have got placements. After getting a degree my plans are if I dont land into a satisfying job then I will start my preparation of the military or start a new business.
