All about IIT Kharagpur

There are a total of 15000 (approx) students including all fields, 832 academic staff, and approximately 1500 administrative staff. The faculty-student ratio is 1:2 approx. Some of the faculties are Ph.D. holders from IIT Kharagpur itself and others from other IITs and some have done Ph.D. from reputed colleges outside India like Cambridge, Standford, oxford, etc. Most of our professors teach well and they are well-qualified. Our professors solve our doubts easily, and with the help of TAs and seniors, we solve our doubts. In one semester, there is one mid-semester exam, an end-semester exam, and two class tests for each theory subject. For internal marks in the lab, we have to perform well during lab. Lab tests are also conducted before the end-semester exam. Checking and security are tight during exams. These exams are not as tough as JEE exams. If you study at least 2 hours a day you will get good marks in exams.

In this year, a total of 900 internships offers were made. Some of the companies are Microsoft, Google, Infosys, Apple, Amazon,some government internships etc. The highest stipend was 2.12 lakhs and the average stipend was 1.2 lakhs. Some projects on web development can you prepare for internships, concepts of DSA , etc should you learn.

Students are eligible from the 7th semester for college placement. A total of 1600 offers and 45 international offers were made at IIT Kharagpur in 2023. IIT Kharagpur also witnessed 900 internships for its candidates. The highest package was 2.68 crore this year and the average was 22 lakhs. Some of the major recruiters were Apple, Microsoft, Google, airbus, EXL Services, Rubrik, Goldman Sachs, etc. Total number of recruiters is 300. 48 students got packages over 50 lakhs. The total placement percentage including all branches is 75%.

Total fees including mess, hostel, tuition, and others are 3 lakhs per year, tuition fees are 100000, and mess hostel and other fees are 50000 per semester, but there is a scholarship for poor students who are unable to pay this huge amount. For SC/ST students, there is a fee waiver on tuition fees not on mess and others. For other students, If the family income is <1 lakh, you will get a full fee waiver on tuition fees only. If 1 lakh5 lakh, you will get no fee waiver. Other private scholarships are also there and some scholarships are also provided by IIT Kharagpur itself of 1000 or 2000 per month for 9 months if you top in first year and family income is less than 2 lakhs per year.

Spring fest is annual fest and kshitij is techfest of IIT Kharagpur.They are conducted in January and February. Students enjoy a lot in these fests. There is a central library at IIT Kharagpur in which all types of books even research books and journals are available. Each hostel also has its own library, gym, music room, common room, canteens, etc. Maximum classrooms in IIT Kharagpur are air-conditioned with a smart projector and board. Wi-Fi and fans are also available in classrooms. All the basic and advanced amenities are provided in classrooms. IIT Kharagpur is known for its best cultural and sports activities, entrepreneurship, and better placements. Various types of sports are available and all the sports have Olympic-sized ground areas. Sports fest and inter-IIT competitions and GC are also conducted every year. There are many clubs run by students such as E-cell, Dramatic Society, prahvaah, Robotics Club, Debate Society, Civil Services Society, and many more.

In the first year, generally Lal Bahadur Shastri Hall and Pdt. Madan Mohan Malviya Hall is provided. There are three students in each room. All the basic facilities are provided like free wife, filtered water, 24×7 availability of water and electricity, washing machines are available for students on each floor and believe me it will reduce your efforts and time. Lal Bahadur Shastri Hall is known for its better food. The quality of the food is very good. If you are eating hostel food first time then perhaps you will not like it much but the food is much better than any other place I have ever eaten. The mess fee is 14500 per semester approx. 3 times chicken, 2 times fish, 1-time egg curry, and 1-time paneer are provided in a mess of LBS hall. You will be provided a boiled egg every day in the morning. Ghee is also provided two times a week in LBS hall mess. The registration process for hostels is very smooth, you do not have to worry about anything.

You have to clear the JEE ADVANCED exam to get into any IIT and must secure a general rank under 20000 for obc students to get into IIT Kharagpur in its lowest branch. The form will be available after the declaration of the second JEE Mains result and the application fee is 2900 rupees for Indian students. There are much higher chances to get in the top IIT even at a lower rank if you can avail of reservation benefits. A student ( general) will get the lowest branch in IIT Kharagpur at 8000 general rank and a student (OBC) will get the same seat at 20000 general rank and 25000 to 30000 for SC/ST students. The admission process at IIT Kharagpur is very smooth. You do not have to worry about anything. You will get much time for fee payment.
