Techno Main Salt Lake Kolkata, BE, Computer Engineering

Remarks

The college management is really supportive and sincere towards their guidance; our parents are asked every 6 months for their review how are we getting the benefits of the college and how do we feel about the environment; the management is even looking for further infrastructure improvements which can seriously benefit a lot of students and uphold the might and heritage of this renowned institution

Entrance Preview

I appeared for WBJEE examinations and achieved a rank of 7090 when the counselling started I had opted only for Computer Science Engineering and listed 6-7 colleges out of which Techno India, Salt Lake was quoted 4th on my list; my brother graduated from BIT(Techno India group) and he instructed me in choosing TISL for my Btech degree.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

The course curriculum is really interesting where we are provided a whole lot of information on the upcoming topics on technology and other fields. Workshops are conducted every 1 or 2 weeks where we get to know a lot that is happening all across the globe; my first year included Mathematics, Humanities(English skills and communication), Physics, Mechanics, Electrical and Electronics with practicals on Physics, Mechanics Workshop, Humanties, EE and EC the vast syllabus is really informative with a lot of common from class 12 syllabus which serves as the foundation unit for every Engineering student.

Internships Opportunities

I am not so sure on that part being in first year, but the educational background which we have here pushes us to be knowledgable, learn the subject and develop something innovative rather than pushing in for money. The internships are really helpful as they provide a technical experience which helps us to push forward and serve companies when promoted for full-scale operations.

Placement Experience

4

As mentioned by our coordinator on the first day of our college "Skills much more than marks and before thinking of getting the employment you should make yourself employable" which I believe roots as the sandstone in the growing market of unemployability and risk at keeping the jobs. The placement opportunites are decent providing around 55-60% jobs in all the streams offered by both multinational and startups .The startups may sound risky as compared to the multinational companies but the package they are offering annually makes you to jump at their will.

College Events

4

1) Freshers - The very first event of my college where the teachers selected 14/690 and I was lucky and priveleged to be one amongst the 14. We were groomed by our seniors as ours was the makn event on the D-day where we had to fight for the Mr.Freshers and Miss Freshers title 2)NSS activities - a lot of activities centered around helping people and spreading awareness to the society 3)Annual Sports tournament and Cultural fest - The annual sports and cultural event was organised in the month of March-april where we were honoured to arrange a lot of competitions 4)Technical fest - a total of 150 colleges faced off against each other in the 2nd largest Techno management fest in Eastern India 5)Eclectica - The literary fest of our college where we host drama, skit and quiz competitions

Fee Structure And Facilities

Its modestly expensive rated at 4.19 lacs for Computer Science engineering and a few modifications for other courses. One can issue an educational loan from the bank with a time limit of 5 years after which you have to start paying well one can consider the fees structure if my college comparatively expensive but everything charged is accounted for. The fees for the other events in our college starting from Departmental fests, tournaments are not accounted in the college fees but one can see the campus placements record offered by my college in respect to other colleges which somehow justifies it

Fees and Financial Aid

No, I have not been offered any scholarship on the grounds of my results and frankly I was not promised so. The administration was very clear and communicative about the ad-ons provided by our college and scholarship was never a part of it. The college however allows the students to upgrade their streams on the basis of their SGPA/year which proves to be beneficial for a lot of students

Campus Life

3.5

My college kicked off with the Freshers event where I was selected in the top 14, it was a great experience facing the entire college crowd and speaking with all your confidence and effort. It was followed by the NSS activities where we rallied across Sector 5, flew kite with the under-priveleged children, watched movies with them. As the first semester came to an end, the Second sem welcomed thr inaugaration of our Sports tournament where different colleges participated to showcase their skills. Needless to say, TISL was the best! It was followed by the Technical and Cultural fest; while the Tech committee welcomed the likes of Rahul Subramaniam and Sahil Shah, our cultural team invited Jonita Gandhi to rock the stage. The gender ratio is pretty appalling for my department which is pretty surprising but I hope with the upcoming years, it gets better

Hostel Facilities

4

I am pretty unaware of the mess food as I travel from home to college but what I have known from my friends that the food quality offered in the mess is pretty poor and they are deciding to change their stay in the next year The hospitality though is very nice but the food is pretty distasteful and they have to avail the food from outside the college for atleast 3 times a week which becomes an issue of concern because of the shortage in allowance. However , what I believe is that one must sacrifice at some part if you are going to achieve at the other but improvements are required in those sectors

Alumni/Alumna

The alumni network provides an online portal where we can discuss our problems on a varied range of topics starting from industrial experience to how important the course curriculum would prove to be beneficial in our upcoming years...The seniors are pretty cooperative and free to mix treating us as their little brothers solving the little problems which may take a big turn in the coming days, keep ur self respect, give them the ordeal and position where they can respect you, do the same and you can have all the blessings and love

Exam Structure

The Exam structure is pretty hectic especially during the practical semester exams conducted by our college where we have atleast 2 exams per day and in some cases even 3. Each exam ranges for about 3 hours, so 6 hours of exam/day proves to be very hectic for all of us and it also hampers the results in some subjects because all that we have prepared for the 2 subjects gets jumbled up at its premise

Admission

After I achieved my rank in Wbjee(7090) I visited the counselling office from where I got a printed form instructing me to visit TISL and get my admission done. My parents and I went to Techno India with the printed form and I was asked to fill in the details in the College portal after being supervised by the Presiding officer. I uploaded my 10th and 12th standard marks and submitted a photocopy of my marksheet to the officer and my admission was done. I was instructed to provide my email so as they could mail me all the information required at the prologue of my admission session. It was really wonderful and supporting on their part guiding me throughout as I had faced a lot of questions in the initial part. The orientation programme was presided over by the HOD of our department and we were given a idea of the various achievements of this college; later with the support and guidance of the ARC members, we were shown our college classrooms, provided with all the documents. Our college ID card and library card was issued on the first day our college, and .

Faculty

4.5

The faculties are extremely cooperative guiding us in every subject and conducting regular class-tests for evaluation on the completed topics the teachers can be approached in a very lucid and precise way and the communication is very friendly which makes it very easier to resolve all the problems which may stand out as a major threat at the apex of the semester the teachers really encourage the students engaging them in question-answer trivia to make them realise their own backlogs and clear them out which for me stands as a very strong judgement for appreciating all my college teachers.

Placement Experience:

The campus placements happen in final year of the course. There is a well established placement cell to conduct the on-campus placements. Many well renowned companies visit our college namely Microsoft, Google, TI, TSL, PWC, ICICI, ABG. L&T, etc. The highest package was 50LPA and the average was around 9LPA. Over 90% students got placed from across every department and details of the placement is also available in the college official website. I have gotten a job from the on-campus drive to a core company.

The placements of our college are below average. Studies for placement are more or less relevant from second semester. companies like tcs, amazon etc do visit our campus however very few are selected with package above 4-5 LPA. Most of the students seek out for higher studies and that's my plan too.

Placement Experience:

After the 6th semester, the students are eligible for placements. Mass recruiters like TCS, Wipro, Infosys, Accenture, Capgemini, etc visit every year and pick up 80-100 students per company. Other companies like Amazon, Thoughtworks, Etc also visit the college. The highest package offered by our college is 15LPA by Thoughtworks. Every year around 75-80% of students get placed on campus. I plan to get a good job work for 2-3 years and then apply for Masters. Overall the placement is very nice in this college.
