A review from a average thapar student

My branch is electronic and computer. Placement of this branch is very good as both tech and non tech companies allows it. Branches are devided into groups. For lectures every 120-140 student there is a professor. For labs the the size is 20-25. Most of the profs are supporting. But its a engineering clg, they teach average only if you compares it with your school or coachings, many will just read out slides or give you pdf materials. Exams are just okayishly hard. You have practical quize endsem and midsems.

For my course total money spent including everything will be around 25lacs.I myself didnt get any scholarships but there are many opportunities like if you have good cg, or if from defence background or if you are economically not that strong to pay.

We had a annual cultural cum tech fest called Saturnalia. It occurs every November. Its 3/4 day event where many colleges participate. Thapar have a state of the art library building. Its a modern and huge building where you can find every book you can think of. Its have huge sitting areas and you can issue books with id card. We had air conditioned modern class with good furniture and projector. Thapars annual sport fest is urja which is a inter college level competition and thaparlympics which is for thapar students only. We had most of the sports facilities, courts and fields for every games. A new sport complex is under construction also. We had a swimming pool too. Every kind of society is available where you can join. They conduct various type of functions and competitions in the campus. Top clubs are owasps, mudra, virsa etc

Hostels are really good in thapar. For first year are they are decent level but then as you clear sems your hostel quality will increase. You will get a almirah desk chair bed dustbin. First year student dont get air conditioned rooms but then everyone had them. Most of the hostel mess is organised by a private company called sodexo. The food is really good and hygienic then most of the engineering colleges. Messes are also fully air conditioned. Hostel are very good but too expensive also. For a double sharing room you will pay on average 50k and for mess its 22k

I get admission on jee result basis. If you are from punjab, you will get a strong reservation in the admission process. Cut offs are relatively lower for them. Application are out just before the last jee exam. The application and time line is available on the site.
