Course Curriculum Overview
The course is good like it consists of all the basic important subjects needed for that branch. Apart from that I believe a little updation of the cirucullam could take it from good to great. I feel there are certain subjects that are a bit behind the circucullam in this fast growing age and some redundant subjects which could be removed. The teachers are good, very helpful and supportive and regarding the ratio it is good like almost for every department there are sufficient teachers. Most of the teachers have their PHD so they are highly qualified. For a semester there are two exams, the mid term and the end term exams. Total there are 4 major exams in a year and some other assignments, quizzes and lab practicals as well.
Internships Opportunities
The college provides both internship and full time job opportunities which include many companies like American Express, OYO, MAQ, Blackrock with stipend ranging from 20000 to 70000. To get selected in these internships you should have a good grasp of core subjects like OOPS, OS, DBMS and CN. Apart from this you should have a good problem solving abilites which you can gain by learning and practising DSA questions.
Placement Experience
The students became eligible for campus in the 7th Semeseter(i.e. 4th year). There are lot of companies that visit thapar right from the big giants like google, blackrock, american express to almost all the known starts ups like oyo, makemytrip etc. The offers range from anywhere between 6 lakh - 20 lakh. The highest package of my year was around 30 lakh and the average package would be around 9 Lakh. There are various profiles offered like SDE, Business analyst, Data Scientist or Aanalyst, Product Manager etc Almost 80-90% students get the placement.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fee structure is a little expansive. The structure is like this: Examination Fees: 2000 Student Activities & Welfare Charges: 7500 Tution Fees: 15200 Medical Fees: 500 Developemnt Fees: 57000 Mess Fees: 21000 There is scholarship and financial assistance avaliable as well only for the top 10% of the students each semester.
Campus Life
The campus life is pretty great there are a lot of society events and cultural fests ranging from the biggest event Saturnalia to various Hackathons. There is a big library avaliable in case you want to read any book. The library is vast and big and you can find almost any book there. Regarding sports there are almost all the common sports and sports facilites avaliable and the grounds / courts are well maintained. The equipments might be a bit old but still they are usable. The major societies or groups which I would like to hightlight are EDC, Toastmasters, CCS, Rotaract, Thapar MUN, ACM
Hostel Facilities
There are almost all the basic facilities like laundary, AC, Room cleaning, Gyser etc. The mess menu is also constantly updated every week and good quality of food is decent on some days and good on other days. The registeration process is very simple you can do it online through the thapar portal and then you can either choose your room or they'll allocate it for you.
Admission
The cut off for the admission was based on 12th boards percentage as well as JEE mains percentaile. The admission / applications form for the this institute of avaliable of its official website www.thapar.edu. If you belong to Punjab and you have valid residency proof of your punjab home address you get the Punjab quota as well. For the improvements I would love to see some sort of an online portal or managment system especially for the new admissions to address their queries and all the announcements or cut off list to be avaliable there.
