Remarks

As overall the college reputation is amazing and standard is good. But due to the fact of increasing fee and increasing no of seats, the quality of students is declining every year which is resulting in declining standard to college students. And college management is helpful and their deeds are solely for betterment of students.

Entrance Preview

I scored 118 in JEE-MAINS 2016. According to my score and available options, Thapar was the best available option for me. I got admission in Electronics(Instrumentation & Control) as I was from outside Punjab category. There is 50% quota for Punjab students which is a big benefit for them.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

In 2014, Thapar signed MoU (memorandum of understanding) with Trinity College Of Dublin (TCD), Ireland, according to which, Thapar will follow their course study scheme. There are exchange programs available as well according to which student will spend 2 years at Thapar and rest 2 years at Trinity College Of Dublin and they will get the degree of Trinity College. Students can enroll this at the time of admission according to their Jee marks. And the course curriculum is very balanced and more of practical based rather than just theoretical knowledge.

Internships Opportunities

Thapar is on a high end when it comes to placement or internship. Internships are provided for 3rd-year students and for respective branches companies come. They take aptitude and technical test followed by an interview and then a student is selected as an intern. For ex - Reliance Industries come from selecting interns and they give a stipend of approx 25-30k per month.

Placement Experience

4.5

As I stated Thapar is on the high end when it comes to placements. Thapar students bag a hefty package every year as all the big companies coming in the campus for campus placement. For ex- Microsoft, DE Shaw India, Walmart Labs, Sandisk, Texas Instruments, Snapdeal etc. Average package of computer science being 10LPA, electronics - 6LPA While other branches like civil chemical get an average package of 4-5 LPA

College Events

5

There are a lot of extracurricular activities. There are more than 35 societies in the college and student can join them according to their interest. There is a lot of fest in college. The biggest one is 'SATURNALIA', which is the annual feast celebrated every year in October-November. A lot of different colleges come and participate in this. Another one is Urja-Sports fest which is in the month of February. It is celebrated on a big scale.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fee structure is quite high and that's why the standard of college is somehow started declining. And moreover, each year fee is increasing. Tuition fee for the 1st year is approx 1,30 lac per semester. Hostel fee is approx 30-40k (depending on hostel accommodation) per semester And mess fee is 15k per semester. And every semester tuition fee increases. So as compared to other engineering colleges, the fee is quite high.

Fees and Financial Aid

Scholarships are also provided to the toppers. Every year, each branch toppers are awarded with medals and scholarships. Top 10% students of the branch are provided with scholarships.(approx 70-80k) Loan applications are sanctioned by college which can be used to get loan from the banks.

Alumni/Alumna

Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology was established in 1956, so due to the fact of 62 Years old college, the alumni base of college is quite strong and the old alumni are working in reputed brands at big positions. So they definitely help the upcoming Thapar students. Even there is 'Student Alumni Interaction Cell' which helps students and alumni to be in touch.

Exam Structure

The exam structure is very competitive and evaluates student a lot of time. Normally there are Mid-semester exams(25-30% weightage ) Internals (quizzes, assignment, labs, 20-30% weightage ) End semester exams ( 35-45% weightage) And due to this grades cutoff are very unpredictable. And generally college timing are 8-5 and the schedule is very hectic.

Admission

Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology (formerly Thapar University) established in 1956 takes admission on solely JEE-MAINS score. Not management quota is there. Though NRI is there. Every year in the month of april - may admission form is available on official site of Thapar. Students can fill that form and in that special Thapar rank is being designated to students (according to their JEE marks) and then according to that rank and availability of seats the course is being offered. There are 4 cutoff rounds in total which comes on there official site. After that 2 in-person counselling is there, one in july and other in August. For in-person counselling the student needs to come to Thapar, Patiala. After that admission in being done and you can enjoy your college life.

Faculty

4.5

Faculty is very experienced. Most of the faculty members are PhD holders from IIT. Many of them are even having experience of 25-30 years. Teachers are helpful are flexible. Though some teachers may irritate you because of their rigid behavior but at the same time they can provide you with a great piece of knowledge. Mostly experienced teachers are alloted with research projects provided by govt.
