IIIT Kalyani: An honest review

My choice of computer science branch was because of the market trend that it pays you the maximum. Honestly speaking, I was not very passionate about the course, B.Tech and every branch offered the same excitement to me. After coming here at IIIT Kalyani, I think I am on the way of making my decision right. The course and teaching pattern is very much the way I had wanted it to be. Here in the 1st semester they taught us 6 subjects namely Maths(linear algebra), Physics, BEE, Programming in C, Values and ethics, English for communication. Apart from the humanity subjects, the technical subjects taught here are very practical based. Proper labs are available and regular assessment takes place that whether we are actually understanding or just mugging up the things. The exams here are on moderate to tough level according to me. They dont ask direct questions and try to test your grasp on subject.

A lot of companies provide internship opportunity if you cultivate the right skills. Here at IIIT Kalyani out seniors mentor us to get internships from 2nd to 3rd year itself. We were asked to make github accounts and to assess various domains like web development, Machine learning, etc right from the first year so that we can get mastery in what so ever domain we choose.

As far as I know which is based on rumours and can be wholly wrong too is that the average on-campus placment this placement drive is about 16 lpa and maximum off campus is about 53 lpa. I dont know how many get placed. I am not sure what i am going to do after completing my degree but i might tilt towards GATE examination.

The per semester fees at IIIT Kalyani is 96k for tuition and 54k for hostel and mess altogether. The total fees for 4 years would be around 12 lakhs. Here they dont provide any kind of scholarship from their side but definitely they will help you to get what so ever government schloarship you can get based on your state or category.

Since I have joined I have been a part of various events like Anukriti(Freshers day), Aarambh 2.0(tech event for freshies), Postman API online event and many more. The college even without a permanent campus is a happening place. Here we have a library with books relative to our courses available. Its not very big though. The classroom have AC and are installed with proper projectors and white marker boards. The CSC and BEE labs are well equipped. The major clubs here are Udaan, FOSS, GDSC, Symohony, Groovz, etc.

In the second semester we are living at BSNL hostel which is at 4 km distance from the college temporary campus. We have bus service available. The rooms are all 3 seater and are well spaced more or less. The washrooms are cleaned daily not that all are clean enough to be used. The hostel building is old but spacious. We have badminton court too here. We are at 100 m from Kalyani Simanta railway station. The mess serves 3 meals with snacks excluded.

The admission in IIIT, Kalyani happens through JOSAA and CSAB counselling after you give your JEE mains exam. The cutoff for admission in CSE branch was around 96 percentile for general students. The admission process was really smooth. We were asked to do physical reporting before our classes were to be started. Both online and offline modes were available for performing the physical reporting. I opted for online physical reporting and I was guided really nicely all through. The offline physical reporting process was also really smooth about which I came to know from my batchmates. The offline process took place at webel IT park which is the temporary campus of IIIT, Kalyani in room G03, with plenty of staff providing the required guidance.
