What Students Say

- People coming from other states would absolutely love this place due to it's nature and beautiful views. The college infrastructure is great, the campus is very big, 470 acres. One can easily complete 10000 steps daily living here.
- The course curriculum atleast for the CSE branch is quite good and makes us job ready. This is something other colleges don't really provide so that's a plus point
- I'm a part of the music club and I really like this club, the people, the instruments everything. The members gather every day for a jamming session which is quite fun even for the people who don't sing. We often see people passing by and stopping.
Dislikes
- The placements of this campus are very bad considering it's a government funded technical institution and the ranks for this college are high. The package should be atleast 6-7 lpa average for a cse student.
- Since I'm from delhi, I really miss the fest culture. Here there are very low quality fests, the other colleges are quite far so we cannot easily go and attend their fests, and even if we could, the colleges ask money for entry which is quite unusual
- This is not a complaint about the university but the area near it. There are literally very few shops for students. Only 1-2 stationary, there are 0 restaurants. The street food is also average in here. The bus services outside campus are very slow.
Course Curriculum Overview
Something I really liked about the course curriculum here is that the subjects in BTech CSE are market relevant. They teach us things that are actually important and make us job ready. For example, Data Structures and Algorithms is a field mostly asked in almost every IT related job, and this Data Structures and Algorithms is being taught to us, which doesn't usually happens in other colleges. Also with the new education policy, some additional useful courses like introduction to cybersecurity and artificial intelligence were added which are quite relevant in today's world. Even non tech students were able to opt for these basic courses. To the students of CSE, this cybersecurity and AI will be taught in detail, that is also a plus point. As for the complaints, there are a few. The subjects which are not going to be of much use in our life are taught but the checking of their exams is very thorough, which should be lenient for tech students.
Internships Opportunities
Since I'm a first year student, I haven't yet had the opportunity to grab an internship, but my seniors have grabbed some, so I know a little bit about these internships. First of all, the companies that come for internship are almost the same companies that come for placement. Maybe one or two companies are different. They only take students with a higher cgpa for shortlisting. After then the skill based shortlisting starts. So if you have the best skills but cannot get a good gpa, you won't be elligible for internship. The senior whom I know made some frontend clones of famous websites like Netflix amazon etc and the clone was quite good. The clone was done using html css and javascript. The website was almost fully functional, since backend was not involved it wasn't complete. But a refined frontend clone was good enough to impress the companies.
Placement Experience
The placements of this college are low considering this is a government college. The avg packages are 4-5-6 lpa. Not more than that. The packages on the higher side are good though. A student got 20lpa on campus. The placements off campus though are a hit, one student got 45 lpa job in blinkit. Mostly companies that come here are tcs, orange, ibm etc. the 20lpa package for this year is given for backend development. The students getting a placement have more than 8 cgpa or maybe more than 7.5. no less. I want to go directly for jobs after my course. With off campus placement.
Fees and Financial Aid
There is almost around 10k fees increase every year, in tuition fees. For the very first time, a 10k security fees is taken. For reference, I had to pay 141000 fees for 1st year, but with additional one time only payments, my fees went upto 178000 for first year. Since I'm an outsider, I also live in the hostel and eat mess food. The hostel fees is almost the same from many years i.e. 20000, but the mess fees changes more frequently, maybe like once in 2.5 years. Currently it is 24000 for mess fees. So overall, around 2.5 lakhs for the first year, then 2-2 lakhs every year so total of 8.5-9 lakhs. Scholarship is given to top 10 students of a class with a minimum of 8.5 cgpa and other than that, scholarship is given to students who got less than 1 lakh rank in jee. The lower the rank, the more the scholarship. Highest scholarship is tuition fees waiver for 5 sems, the Lowest scholarship is tuition fees waiver for 3 semesters. There are no such campus employements in my knowledge.
Campus Life
The campus life is very good. Our college is in a very beautiful place with the beautiful view of vaishno devi parvat. The nature is also very pleasant. The campus life, which involves social aspects is a little dead here. Only 2-3 clubs are active out of 10-11 clubs. The active clubs include Aalap- music club, Atelier- multimedia club, and a dance club. There is a board of cultural activities under which all the clubs come. This BCA conducts fests like titiksha, i.e technical fest held in july maybe, resurgence i.e, cultural fest held in march, garbha night in october and many more events. The library of the college is enormous. Most of the books which a student requires are available. The classrooms are also neat and clean with latest smart board technologies. The sports club comes under BSA- board of sports activities. They conduct sports fest called sarang, which also includes esports. The ground is very big so most of the sports can be played. There are some edu clubs like gdsc.
Hostel Facilities
The hostel room for 1st years is very spacious. There is a bed, a shelf, 2 almirahs, one fan, one tubelight for a single person. But the rooms are two person rooms. So double whatever I said in a single room. Rooms are very comfortable to stay in. Only drawback is common washrooms for the whole floor. The mess on the other hand is a mess. The food quality is very bad. Although the quality is on a rise these days due to the new warden, it's still bad. But considering the amound paid for the hostel- 20000, and the mess- 24000, the quality provided is money efficient. Registration for hostels is very easy. But hostel is not provided to people living very close to the college. First priorities given to people from very far. The view which my room window gives is spectacular. There are various trees here, and mata ka darbar is also visible from my window. That is a great view.
Admission
Since I am in BTech CSE, there were two options at my time, one was admission through JEE-Mains. And the other was through CUET-UG. I gave both the exams, but I got a better score in CUET, and thus applied here through CUET since I wanted CSE branch which I was not getting with my rank in JEE. I got 410/600 in CUET which included subjects english, physics and mathematics. To be eligible for BTech CSE, the person has to atleast score 75% in 12th exams, and get a respectable rank in JEE or a good score in cuet(as mentioned, above 400 in cuet). For jee, a general student should get around 1 lakh rank to get admission here, at 1 lakh in the later rounds of counseling, BTech CSE will be allotted. To apply for this college via JEE, one can go for the Josaa or CSAB counselling conducted by the government, or they can directly go to the university's website- smvdu.ac.in where the registration and application form is usually available around the time when results of jee and cuet drop.
