What Students Say
Likes
- Campus buildings , lush green campus , gardens , Nirvana (A place in our college full of greenery looks like a tourist place)
- Clubs , societies, events, fests which are really like everyday literally. We get to learn and experience new things.
- Seniors . Some teachers . Guidance available, mentors
Dislikes
- Not affordable , not worth it according to the fees
- No water dispensers , there is one I know. But it should be made available. We have to buy it
- I don't like something but that's subjective, how everyone is just rich. Like they are busy in their own lives. Like there should be more interaction activities.
Course Curriculum Overview
It's good to be honest. The study is really good. Course Curriculum includes chapters relevant in life. I have felt it myself . To be very honest I did not choose this course myself, I just got it. And I didn't see the syllabus before , I just wanted to get in the college somehow. About how the course impacts the real life lemme give you an example : in my first sem there was a a subject called Professional Communication , it basically included making ppts and presenting them as a group, then group discussions, then report writing, research, all of them were group projects. I had never done these in school. I was always scared to do this, be in front of everyone. But because it was an important part of the curriculum, I had to do it.I realised that I do have a lot of potential. Well. Not to brag about myself but mine was best. So it helped me a lot in the confidence thing which was so low when I came to college. Our teacher was also very supportive, he was like "Just say anything".
Internships Opportunities
I'm in first year. I have not even some one internship from campus. I get mails coming but when I apply they are either paid or very difficult to get in. Because they require some portfolio, I don't have one because I have no experience. This is one thing they should improve upon. So that students can get to actually learn what is it like to work at a job. But mainly about this , I don't know. I have explored, everyone says that internships start from 2nd year
Fees and Financial Aid
Fee structure: For sem1: Development fees : 57000Rs Tution fee : 150900Rs Examination fee: 3000Rs Student activities and welfare recharges: 7500Rs Medical fee and insurance fee: 500Rs Fees for sem2 was same Except Tution fee : 129300Rs. I opened my fee reciept. Scholarship was provided to on basis of family income, on basis who gets above 9CGPA merit basis, and more scholarships keep coming. I don't know about fee cutoff about reseves castes but there is no cutoff for general, just apply for scholarships.
Campus Life
Okay! This can be subjective so according to my opinion, campus life is boring. Like I rarely get a chance to make friends. I'm a day scholar means I do up down to college from home. After classes I go to home. In classes, it's good but I can't meet people rest of the time because they go to their respective hostels. Anyways , general opinion our campus is full of greenery, lush green gardens and everything. I really like that tbh. It's a great place for enjoying. If you look at some places , it doesn't feel like a college , it feels like a hotel location. It's really beautiful. I guess that's the best thing about college. Sports ... All types of grounds are available..cricket ,tennis, badminton (indoor and outdoor), lawn tennis, favourite game Squash is not there unfortunately. Clubs. .. it's the second best part of college . I get to socialize there, everyone does a lot of fun. Seniors are so casual. They are supportive and provide help whenever we say. They are up for guiding.
Admission
Eligibility was above different for different rounds. For 1st round it was above 95% then for 2nd it was above 90% near about for COE branch. For my branch it was 89% then 88.8% . I filed the form during 2nd round. You can find the application form at thapar.edu then "Admissions" then "Fill Application form". Application fees is nearly 2000. Mine was 2000Rs for 2nd round. There were Reservations like SC, ST, OBC,EWS etc. Cutoff for the reserved castes was lower than that of general. I would also like to tell that our college gives quota for in city people i.e. people of Patiala. No particular entrance exam for admission in Thapar required. Just an exam called JEE. Jee %ile is also considered as cutoff. Well a mentor can be assigned for eg. If I filled application form. , they can connect me to a 2nd year student to help me in the admission or sequence of branches
