Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

The MBBS course in KMC mangalore is strictly structured around the CBME guidelines as set by NMC India. the curriculum is up to date and regular. we have never had missed classes. the class time table is renewed and sent accordingly by the concerned faculty. the teaching is application based and based on case scenarios that a future doctor might encounter. basically, it focuses on active learning by the student. A yearly academic timetable is sent at the beginning of the course which contains all the details about the course duration, exam dates, holidays, etc. the total duration of the course is 4 and a half years plus one year compulsary internship at the college hospital. there is no compulsary rural bond as is present in other medical colleges, which is a relief to the students. The teaching makes use of audio visual guides and real specimens to make the students grasp the concept readily. the exams are conducted regulary and reviewed by teachers. the level of exams are moderate.

Fees and Financial Aid

the fees per annum for a management seat is 14,30,000/- inr as of 2020. The fees can increase yearly. Those choosing to reside at hostel will have to pay extra hostel fees, including charges for accomodation, utility and mess. there is a scholarship for students with very high marks in NEET, the entire course fee will be funded by MAHE university. there is no current campus employment oppurtunities in KMC Mangalore for students.

Campus Life

2.5

since the college is situated in the middle of mangalore city, there isn't a campus. for first years, there is a separate basic science campus at Bejai. It is a lovely campus with a vast playground, separate boys and girls hostels, and a mess in between. from second year onwards, students have to shift to girls hostel at hampankatta and boys hostel at falnir. the hostels are basic, food is good with a variety of choices, quality testing is done regularly. there are multiple student clubs in the college, eg. surgery club, medicine club, media club, etc. there is an annual interclass competition which spans for more than 10 days, focusing on everything from sports to culturals. KMC mangalore also takes part in fests conducted by other colleges, like UTSAV by MAHE, JIPMER where they bag tons of prizes every year. there is a college sports arena called Marena situated in the city which is free for all students of KMC Mangalore, with a vast turf, bb court, gymnasium, indoor sports, etc.

Hostel Facilities

2.5

The college provides hostel facilities for all the students. First years have their hostel in the bejai campus. It is a newly refurbished hostel, with all basic amneties. There are two options to opt for rooms: ac or non ac. there is also a beautiful campus to spend evenings by taking walks, badminton, basketball, etc. Second year onwards, girls have to shift to Nandagiri hostel at Hampankatta and boys to Kaprigudda hostel at Falnir. The hostels are similar to bejai, except there is no campus. each room is shared by two occupants. there is again a choice of opting for an AC or non AC room. all rooms contain all necessary furniture. there is 24/7 heated water available. college wifi is provided in all hostel rooms. there is a curfew till 9:30 during weekdays and 10:30pm during weekends. NRI students can opt for single occupant STURROCK hostel at Attavar. the mess is managed by Quess corp. the food is decent. additionally, many students also opt for staying out in apartments or PGs.

Admission

I applied for the MBBS course at Kasturba Medical College Mangalore. The eligibility was a pass percentage in NEET exam, 50% and above in +2 subjects including Biology, physics, chemistry, maths/ip and english. the application form can be found on the college website www.manipal.edu. the website is very comprehensive and gives generous details regarding the admission process, the fee structure, and the application dates. i did not avail any reservation benefit since i am general category, but the univesrity offers scholarships to students with a high score in NEET. after you have submitted your admission details, if you meet the cutoff criteria accoring to NEET score, the college will call you for an interview at the administration block at Manipal campus. the admission process was very systematic, there were proper counters set up and worry free, provided you have carried along with you the necessary documents for the same.

Course Curriculum Overview:

curriculum is designed to be highly relevant and comprehensive for modern medical practice.Early Clinical Exposure is One of the strongest aspects of the curriculum is introducing students to patients in their very second year. The final year of the curriculum—the Compulsory Rotatory Residential Internship (CRRI) is effective it prepares students for the high-pressure environment of Indian healthcare, making them very capable of handling emergencies and outpatient departments (OPD ). Students feel that lectures are still too focused on passive PowerPoint presentations.Rigorous schedule, integrating "Life Skills" or "Stress Management" modules more formally into the foundation course would be helpful. The university exams (RGUHS) are generally fair but require a very high level of descriptive writing and practical precision.
