Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

The course curriculum is pretty balanced, consisting of maths, computer science, and lab classes along with the department introductory courses. Moreover they recently started a makerspace course that trains students in basic mechanical and electrical engineering. In my opinion it's makerspace and computer science that's most important when it comes to preparing one for real-world problems. Maths is somewhat important, and the DICs are a good start for diving deeper into your major. The exams vary in difficulty levels. Some are easy and some are so hard even hours of preparation are not enough for scoring high marks. They mainly include questions where one must apply all they learned in lectures and solve questions they've never experienced before. It's kinda fun to a degree.

Internships Opportunities

5

IIT Bombay has excellent internship opportunities, which include research internships, digital trust internships and summer internships. The IITB Research Internship Award offers a monthly stipend of more than 15K for four to six months, and is open to 2nd year Masters students and to 3rd and 4th year undergraduates. The IITB Trust Lab Internship is another one that lasts for 9 months. The summer internships last from June or July for two months.

Placement Experience

4

Placement season begins after the students' 4th year, and companies like Apple, Uber, Google, Jaguar, Airbus, Amazon, Infosys, and many more come to recruit the fresh graduates. The average package is 21.82 LPA, and the highest is 3.67 Cr. Out of 2207 students, 1845 students were placed.

Fees and Financial Aid

Compared to private colleges, 2L per year in tuition sounds pretty good. On top of that, there are scholarship opportunities that remove the tuition fees altogether. Hostel fees are acceptable too, considering you're provided with a laundry service and washing machines.

Campus Life

5

IIT Bombay has the best campus life. I can't think of any other college that has such a vibrant variety of festivals and events. There's Mood Indigo, Asia's largest cultural festival where artists from India and all over the world come and perform. There's Techfest which has Tech Expo, talk shows, battle bots, and an EDM Night. There's a huge craze over sports as well, with athletes performing in General Championships and Inter IIT competitions. There are a huge number of clubs, ranging from technical and academic to sports and cultural. There are tech teams where members may take part in national and international technical competitions. And everything is student-run, with assistance from faculty members. As for the library, it has a huge range of resources which are all up to date. The lecture halls are all equipped with giant screens. Campus life is something that can't be described in a 1000 characters. It can only be experienced, and fully.

Hostel Facilities

3.5

The hostel rooms are pretty small, but they can accommodate two people. It's the senior hostels which are a problem, because the rooms are originally meant for single occupancy, but with the demolition of some hostels (H4 and H8), two people are squeezed into these rooms. One good thing is that they provide you with a laundry service and washing machines on each floor. For registering, you will have to fill a form, and pay 40k as hostel fees. The mess food quality is decent at first, but soon turns mediocre. There are night canteens that provide better food if the menu doesn't sit right with you, and these canteens stay open from 9 pm to 3 am. There's also a Domino's and a Cafe Coffee Day, and the Aromas dhaba has excellent biriyani.

Admission

So you will have to give the JEE mains exam first, which takes places in two sessions, one in January end and one in April beginning. All the details (application form, fees, admit card, etc.) are available on the NTA website. You may sit for either session or for both, and the final marks you get is the best percentile out of the two. If that clears the cutoff set for that year, you will be eligible to sit for JEE Advanced, which is occurs in May end to July beginning. The details for that can be found in jeeadv.nic.in if I remember correctly (just search jee advanced 20XX and you should get it). Upon clearing its cutoff, you may take admission in any of the IITs in India. These exams are quite difficult in the sense that there is immense competition, which is projected to increase. They require not just a true interest in science, but also hard work, discipline and perseverance. This is not a test to score the highest marks. It's a test to score more marks than others.

Faculty

4

Faculty members are pretty boring during lectures. But that doesn't mean it's all of them; some are quite good and make their lectures interactive and fun. They also allow students to do projects under them, so there's that. Most professors are chill; they don't mind you not paying attention as long as you don't disrupt their lectures.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I choose this course because I have genuine interest in civil engineering. The faculty student ration is 1:50. Our faculties are well qualified they are master's degree holders in design and structural engineering. Some of them are PhD holders and many of them have done their master's from NIT and IIT. Term exams are scheduled after every 2 months. it is easy to pass because it consists of 30 marks only.
