Course Curriculum Overview

4

The course curriculum is comprehensive and so far relevant as far as the subjects are their practicability is concerned. Many of top law colleges also abide by similar course curriculum. However, the course has a compulsory 15 day internship but only in the 5th year which is where I think it lacks real world understanding, no doubt students now are facilitated by faculty for internships in vacations. But regular court, mediation, or similar visits could make an impactful change. The teaching method of each teacher varries accordingly and is understandable. But where the semester system often is of 6 months, giving students enough time to learn and prepare, comparatively the semester in this university end within 4 months, and there is a gap of merely one month between mid terms that cover half or even more than half of syllabus and end semester exams i.e finals.

Internships Opportunities

4

Internships are often facilitated by department for the students having no legal background or the ones who are unable to secure an internship on their own basis through a process of screening of resumes by student coordinators and faculty members both in summer and winter vacations. Major areas of internships are supreme court, High court, district court of Amritsar and other districts, advocate general office, etc. I had myself gone for internship under supreme court advocate and office advocate general of Punjab. My experience made me both academically, practically and socially active.

Fees and Financial Aid

The fees as per other law colleges is justified and is comparatively average. Scholarships are given to poor students under poor students aids scholarship and to reserved category under sc/st scholarship which is where I think it is biased as people using luxuries often are taking financial aids giving fake income or caste certificates. Their fees is reduced to almost 90% whereas the ones who are actually in need do not always consider scholarships given its barriers like income tax filing, belonging to general caste etc. As of now the department doesn't offers any job placement which is a loophole as most law colleges offer placements. There are no such job roles, leave alone stipends

Campus Life

4

Annual fest, inter and intra University competitions are held annually. Unlike Many of popular departments, my department is less involved in holding any fests but cultural and social activities are encouraged be it in memory of freedom fighters, celebration of festivals and gurupurabs. Student have constituted moot court society which holds occasional events and competitions in legal arena whereas student coordinators are responsible for working, management and organisation of other events, fests and any other extra curricular activities held including blood donation camps, NSS camps etc.

Admission

The eligibility was 12th passout with not less than 55% marks. It was state centralised admission and counseling procedure wherein student has to fill colleges as per their preferences and counseling was done. Where the first 3 rounds of counselling had cut-offs with not less than 92, 4th round of counselling was manual counselling which gave admission on first come first serve basis therefore making cutoff meaningless. The admission procedure was totally online except physical counseling. But the admission process is typically later than most of departments, it usually ends in August and there are finals in November December hence putting a huge pressure upon students

Faculty

4.5

Most of the faculty is well educated and at par has well knowledge and are expert in their fields. Also the student faculty ratio is perfect as far as my course is concerned. They are open to feedback, dedicated and most importantly teachers are interactive both in and out of the classrooms. Hence, being approachable for students.

This is a little vulnerable part of our university as placements aren't it's biggest strenth. A batch size of 300 and only half of ir finds placements from RGNUL. Yes around 40 odd firms have inked deals with RGNUL but still getting the desired results in favour of placements will take some time.

In our University, students are eligible for campus placements in 5th year of their degree for BA.LLB.(Hons.) and in LLM. they are eligible for placements in the 1st semester itself. Many Law firms visit our university like Khaitan & Co., Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas, Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas, Trilegal, etc. One students of our university got a 2.5 cr. placement offer from Linklaters Llp. a firm based in U.K. My plans after getting the degree are to start litigation or give a try in UPSC.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The curriculum is good as there are many subjects which are important from the point of view and law like sociology and political science and we also have a new subject UNGP which allows the students to know about UN helping them in public international law and internatinal law understanding. The curriculum might not help everyone in real life but the environment you get there and surviving there surely hell one in real life The recommendation from me to do improvements is in checkinh as many students get few marks initially but after revaluation they increases
