Remarks

I stay with my words - it's the best medical college in Karnataka. Have learnt a lot and I won't forget that I owe my teachers and Friends everything that I'm today.

Entrance Preview

Karnataka CET Rank 929 Choose this college because it's the best medical college in Karnataka Admission was through Karnataka CET. Just had to take the allotment letter to college , submit the documents, post the fee and done with the admission process.

Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

The course is set by RGUHS and it's a five and half years course with one year of internship included. First and second year you have the preclinical subjects and third and the fourth year clinical. I'm the first year you remain in the college, learn basics like anatomy, biochemistry, physiology from the second year you are exposed to the hospital and patients where you are taught the basics of history taking. Also you have some of the major subjects in second year - pathology , pharmacology, microbiology and forensic these second year subjects form the back bone for your clinical subjects third year we have community medicine , ENT and ophthalmology and the final year we have medicine, surgery, paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology and corresponding postings in the hospital and other short subject postings such as blood bank, skin, radiology, casualty so basically it's well set up curriculum. We have the opportunity to to take up thesis work and guides will be allotted and we can go about in any topic which we like. At undergraduate level there isn't much of research . You are just learning and strengthening your basics.

Internships Opportunities

Yes , we have Victoria hospital, vanivillas hospital, minto hospital and bowring and lady Curzon hospitals attached to our institute . The general stipend is 15,000 when we started and was later on hiked to 20,000 after a ten day strike by the doctors association of Karnataka.

Placement Experience

4

It's not like any other engineering colleges where you need to get placements or you need to depend on them. As soon as you finish there are plenty of job opportunities - you can work in plenty of corporate hospitals , nursing home. There wasn't any difficulty in getting a job but 99% (atleast from our college)of undergraduate don't work because they need to prepare for their post graduate entrance exams which very tough and requires serious preparation.

College Events

4.5

As soon as we entered the college - our seniors had a freshers party for us which was quite cool. After passing our every year we as a class have socials where we celebrate and thank our teachers we the intra-college fest called chrysalis every year and a inter-college fest called cobalt skies . We have our sport team and we do participate in other college events over all I can say that even though we are medicos , we are not left behind in cultural and extracurricular activities.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Since it's a goverment institute the fee structure is very economical. I don't think anybody can't afford to pay 12,000 a year as fee for a professional course and that's not all. If you belong obc and have a valid certificate then the fee goes down to 3-4,000 which is much appreciated. Also you have various scholarship available .so I think studying in Bangalore medical college is very economical.

Fees and Financial Aid

The college doesn't provide scholarship or loans the college provides free books, apron, laptop for SC/ST. Have applied for minority scholarship and have used that for first two years.

Campus Life

4

Gender ratio , speaking of which I must tell it's quite bad . In our class of 150 we almost had only about 45 girls which I feel is less . In my 5 years of college life never have I seen or witnessed or even heard anything related to gender inequality or anything related to religion or race. Politics do run especially during the third year when elections for college take place but I think all's a part of living i have had a very decent experience here and everything that's happened - I have no regrets.

Hostel Facilities

3.5

I haven't stayed in a hostel so I can't say much about it. Hostel life is fun and can't say anything more than that.

Alumni/Alumna

College seniors very crucial and very important. It's not like other engineering colleges where you loose touch with them In here they give you the most valuable advice suggestions on how to go about, how to handle subjects, patients and the most important of all - we learn under them in internship.

Exam Structure

Exams are pretty hectic and if you have prepared well then everything will go easy except that you might be tensed . I never used to get tensed even though my preparation was never UpTo the mark. You need confidence to write the exam and it's basically how to talk, present the case and how your discussion proceeds . Based on that you either pass or fail. And let me make one thing very clear - you need to get 50% each in theory and practical.

Faculty

4

Very well qualified teaching staff. Theory classes are fun to attend but not all . The best part is the clinical aspect where we spend time taking the case history of a patient and then we analyze based on what we have learned we are given ample amount of time to complete that. As soon as we are done with case history we need to present it to the professor (doctor) and also need to demonstrate the signs that are positive and those which are absent and finally conclude with our provisional diagnosis . Later the professor guides us where we went wrong and we have a interactive session.

Course Curriculum Overview:

curriculum is designed to be highly relevant and comprehensive for modern medical practice.Early Clinical Exposure is One of the strongest aspects of the curriculum is introducing students to patients in their very second year. The final year of the curriculum—the Compulsory Rotatory Residential Internship (CRRI) is effective it prepares students for the high-pressure environment of Indian healthcare, making them very capable of handling emergencies and outpatient departments (OPD ). Students feel that lectures are still too focused on passive PowerPoint presentations.Rigorous schedule, integrating "Life Skills" or "Stress Management" modules more formally into the foundation course would be helpful. The university exams (RGUHS) are generally fair but require a very high level of descriptive writing and practical precision.
