What Students Say
Likes
- The college is very green and good to look at. There are many OATs that makes the college vibrant.
- Th society culture is very interesting and inclusive. A lot of events do happen every now and then
- Overall it's fun to stay and roam with friends and explore the place and have good college life.
Dislikes
- Too much crowd. They have taken in too many students recently and that has just made the college all the more crowdy and difficult to hang out in.
- The staff and teachers are not very good. The staff is rude sometimes and is biased if you are not odia or local. Teachers just don't know how to teach.
- A lot of restrictions on girls. The curfew and restrictions are too annoying till one point.
Course Curriculum Overview
I choose the curriculum because I wanted to complete my computer Science in peace. Other than that I don't think there is anything attractive about the course. The curriculum barely prepare you for real life scenarios. Some of the electrical subjects we study barely come in handy anywhere. The only useful subject we had was DSA. I think the curriculum can be improved by removing the subjects that are not that important anymore and adding more subjects like Ml or AI as they r trending right now. Also the open electives that are given could be better if possible. The exams occur twice every semester. Mid of semester and end of semester. The difficulty is usually high on these exams especially when the faculty has not prepared us for anything. We have to study everything by ourselves for the exams as what taught in class rarely comes in the exam.
Internships Opportunities
There were very few companies that came for summer internship opportunities to college. Some of them being Providence, PayPal,Dell,Goldman Sachs etc. The stipend varied from company to company but was at an avg of 30k per month.
Placement Experience
Right now we are going through the placements. I think it's going decent. I am already placed right now but a lot of students are still waiting. Companies do come here but the problem is there are too many students and that makes everything seem too difficult. In 2024 avg package was around 6 and around 90% of students got placed. 2025 placements are still going on. I want to do a job for some years after the degree.
Fees and Financial Aid
Right now I am paying around 2.28 lakhs every semester (including my hostel charges). Hostel charges can vary from 58000-150000 depending on what type of rooms you want. The tuition fees is 1.75 lakh per semester. But it has been increasing for each of my junior batches every year and so right now it's 2 lakh pers semester for the current 1st year batch( that is the 2024-29 batch). The mess fees is around 30000 per semester. You can get scholarship if you perform well in the entrance test of the institute. The scholarship gives you 100% scholarship on your tuition fees.
Campus Life
The overall experience was pretty decent. It's a great place to have a good college life. We have fest once a year usually, tech fest and cultural fest together for a week or so. The fest are usually fun only and they do invite famous people to sing or dj during the cultural night of the fest. There are also ethnic days and celebration of festivals like Diwali,Holi etc. Library is vast and accessible easily. You can get any type of book or digital material needed for your studies. The college is very sports oriented. If you are good in any sport then the facilities are provided for it. There have been 11 people from our college who went to Olympics from our college. There are societies (or clubs) in our college for a lot of things ranging from enactus to dance and singing society. It is very inclusive and fun to be in. There are also many volunatring societies like bss, yrc and women empowerment societies.
Hostel Facilities
I have a non AC 3 bedded room. Its kinda hot here so surviving in non AC is difficult if you are too sensitive to heat. The fees of the room varies on what you have opted for. Rooms with AC or attached bathroom will be much more expensive. The meal quality is very bad in some of the hostels. It is difficult to eat anything somedays. The menu looks very attractive but the food is not what is written on the menu. It's not even hygienic sometimes, resulting in number of sick students. If you rent a room or get a pg then it will be almost the same price as the hostel. There are a lot of PGs around the college. You can also rent a flat or room with someone on reasonable price.
Admission
I chose this college because I didn't have any other option left with me at the time. I baad applied for srm, vit, bits etc. for admission plus I was also preparing for my jee exams. I got into vit and SRM but decided giving up the seat cause for some reason I thought I could get into niit. But it was a wrong decision and then the only hope I had was kiit. Kiit conducts its own entrance exam called KIITEE it's free to register and occurs 2-3 times in a year. I applied for it just in case and got in. The overall admission experience was smooth only. We sat for counselling and I got my first preference. The cut-off varies every year but the intake of students is high so the probability of getting favourable course is also high.
Faculty
The faculty of college is majorly PhD people who have done their education from iits and niits. But most of them don't know how to teach. Also there are some faculty that are too unreasonable and so it's just impossible to get internals from them. The examinations happen twice every semester. Mid sem during the mid of the semester, which has half of the syllabus. And then there is endsems during the end of the semester. The midsems are 20 marks each and contribute to the internal of total 50 marks. Endsems are of 50 marks. The 30 mark component of internals is given by the faculty. So internals=50+ endsems=50 and the total is 100. The college follows cgpa system with highest being 10. It is mostly easy to pass the exams. You can fail the exams only if you leave the paper blank or barely write anything. The level of the paper varies and is not fixed. Sometimes it's too hard and leaves you wondering if the questions are even in the syllabus or not.
