Likes
- The main factor I liked was the faculty interactions especially in our department. They were so dedicated and experienced that made oru job easy.The internal exams were conducted in correspondence to the semester exams making us prepared.
- The climate should be appreciated well. The fresh air of Idukki is obviously a key factor for our peace mind.
- The ladies hostel is good and cheap comparing to other expensive PGs. They maintain neat rooms and bathrooms.
Dislikes
- One thing many people feel uncomfortable with our college is the remote location as you neet to go about 8kms to get to a proper shop even hospital.
- Also the mai drawback is the poor placement drives.Many factors including the location makes this college with a very few placement offers.
- The mens suffer a lot with the absence of a college hostel and they need to search for other shelter options.
Course Curriculum Overview
The curriculum is relevant in this current scenario but at the same time I also think that some subjects are not needed for a computer science and engineering student. For example the first year students learn basics of all departments. Basics of mechanical engineering is not really needed for a software engineer.
Fees and Financial Aid
An average amount of fees for studying a btech course in our college is about 23000 excluding the hostel and mess fees. Each year tuition fees and exam registration fees are needed to be paid. The admission fee,Arts and sports fee ,had only to be paid once at the time of admission The tuition fees will be deducted for those from sc St or oec category. Also scholarships like e grants are also available.
Campus Life
Government engineering College idukki provides numerous clubs and other cultural activities. The main attraction was 'Adhwaya' the tech fest conducted four yrs ago. Also our arts fest 'Kavettam' is also conducted every year or consecutive years. The competition is done department wise. Every year sports meet is also conducted. The other clubs include trexx the dance club, casette the music club, querencia and pratheeka the arts club etc.Also other technical clubs like IEEE,ISTE and Stellerio also exist. Social clubs involves the NSS unit and charity unit OASIS. The library have decent amount of books specially the books related to our curriculum. The classroom facilities are also pretty good. Every classrooms have projectors and boards. The labs are also functioning.
Hostel Facilities
The ladies hostel is too good except the food taste. The rooms are furnished with lights and fans. The rooms are of decent quality and neatness. The hostel rent is 310 per month. This will not include the mess bill. The mess bill is to be paid seperately each month. This varies according to our attendance. The average mess bill is about 2500-3000 rs. The food is below average. The mess provides chicken 2 times a week, egg 2 times a week and fish 2 days a week. The hostel registration process is very simple and is done on the same day of the admission process.
Admission
The first college I got selected was the mar ivanious college Thiruvananthapuram for bsc mathematics course. But later I got a seat for BTech computer science and engineering in this college and I decided to join here because I preferred a professional course rather than a degree. The admission process is based on the keam rank you get after writing the keam examination. The syllabus for this exam is higher secondary mathematics physics and chemistry. After publication of ranks the allotment will be conducted on the preference options.
Faculty
The faculty student ratio is about 1:30. Every department has quite experienced faculties. Our department faculties are very dedicated. They take classes every hours and continuous evaluation are also made. Lab hours are provided cleverly and practical guiding is ensured. There will be 2 internal exams and one final end semester exam fo each semester. For lab exam one internal and one external exam is conducted.
