Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum is better than most of the colleges as you directly start computer science course subject in your first semester of your first year. The curriculum is properly structured with important subjects that are necessary for placements such as data structures and algorithms. Exams are there every month but you get enough time to prepare for your exams. The exam difficulty level depends on the faculty but is you prepare well in advance it's not that hard to get a decent CGPA. The classrooms are equipped with smart TV and AC to beat the Chennai heat so we can attend the lecture in peace. In first semester we had, linear algebra, cyber security essentials, physics, digital design, English, C programming. English, data structures, computer organisation and architecture , python programming, maths, classical cryptography in second semester.
Internships Opportunities
People have received internship opportunities from Motorq, paypal, HCL and many other companies. Motorq offered a whopping 1cr package and other companies also offered decent stipends.Since the placements for the first batch hasn't taken place yet as the college started in 2021, the placements details are not clear yet but the internships are going well with the number of applicants appearing for the entrance exam increasing every year.
Fees and Financial Aid
The year wise fees I paid is 340000 for academics and 136000 for hostel. This is for first year including tution fees, caution fees etc. Second year academic fee is 340000 and hostel fee is the same for 3 sharing girls hostel. All the engineering branches i.e, Artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and IoT has the same fee structure. For first year students scholarship is given for entrance exam toppers in each branch. For AC rooms in hostels,we have to pay monthly electricity bill only for AC. Apart from these COE fees is paid for end sem exams which is around 2000.
Campus Life
The main annual fest is called instincts which is most conducted in March or April. The fest goes on for 3 days with various food stalls and other fun activities. A DJ night, Choreonite and proshow will be there on 3 days of the fest. The technical fest conducted is called invente which is conducted in the ending of September every year. Many people participate in these fun events conducted by the students themselves. There are two libraries in the campus which has all the books you will need for the exam preparations. Classrooms are equipped with AC and proper light conditions. There many clubs initiated by the students such as dance club, chess club, business club, music club , literature club etc. Gym, badminton court, basketball court, tennis court, volleyball court, cricket ground, football ground, squash, table tennis court are all present in the campus and they all are well maintained.
Hostel Facilities
There are different types of rooms available for boys and girls such as single sharing, double sharing , triple sharing etc. The fees varies for different rooms at you can choose either AC or non AC rooms. Hostel mess is decent and had two options i.e, either normal mess or premium mess. The premium mess has comparatively more options but you can try both the mess and decide which one to stick to. You can change your mess at the end of every semester. For non veg options there is chicken and egg , veg has paneer. Hostels are affordable and there is no seperate registration process for it. You just have to pay the hostel fees along with academic fees and they will email you the guidelines to follow.
Admission
I primarily chose this college because of the unique curriculum provided here. When I visited and compared the curriculum with different colleges I realised that they have to study all the common engineering subjects in their first year such as mechanical, civil etc even if you are from CSE background which is not the case in Shiv Nadar University chennai. I have written the end Grande exam for other colleges such as VIT , SRM , PES , Amritha and got into most of them but i chose SNU over them. I also wrote JEE but couldn't crack the exam and so applied to all other decent colleges. About the admission process, the first step is the college entrance examination SNUCEE. After qualifying in the exam we are asked to attend a interview where they will test our communication skills and basic understanding of subjects. If you are qualified in the interview round then you will receive a mail regarding the fee structure and other details regarding document verification etc.
Faculty
Most of the faculties have finished their PhDs and are well versed with their subjects. Cyber security branch has one cyber related subject in each semester with 3 credits. For example we had the following cyber specialised courses till now Classical Cryptography, Modern Cryptography,Cyber security essentials. Most of the subjects are common for AI, IoT and cyber branches except few core specialization subjects. We have 4 assessments per semester excluding projects and activities. CIA 1, midsems, CIA 2 , endsems. CIA 1 and 2 hold 20 percent weightage together and midsems has 30 percent weightage while endsems have 50 percent weightage which together adds up to 100 for your final grade for a semester.
