Course Curriculum Overview

4

The curriculum is solely concentrated on making you a better doctor. The competency based medical curriculum along with clinical exposure has succeeded in creating the doctors of the next age. Almost every single piece of info that is taught has some kind of real world application. The exams are spaced about 3-4 months apart and gives adequate time for preparation. There is also end of posting exams in clinics like surgery.

Internships Opportunities

4

The internship of one year after the fourth year in which you rotate between departments. There is a salary of about 15000 per month. It gives adequate clinical experience before you step out as a doctor into the field.

Fees and Financial Aid

St Johns is one of the more prestigious medical schools in the country. It provides admission through the neet exam and there is reservation fot christians. 60 seats in all india roman catholic quota and 10 in All india quota. Then there is 10 for karnataka Christians and 20 for nuns. 10 for staff and also some reservation for sc/st. The first year fees for me was 7.25 and then for other years it was 6.85. However there is a 10% increase each year for coming batches. For example the fee for 2023 batch is 10 % higher than 2022. Hostel and mess is provided by the college and the rooms are well maintained. Clinical exposure and research opportunities are plenty. It is a ragging free campus.

Campus Life

4.5

The autumn muse held in september is the annual event at St John's. it is one of the buggest fests in South India. There is one central library which has 3 floors and one reading room in the college. It is well maintained and has all the books one could need. The lecture halls have projectors and boards. It has Central speaker systems and good seating. There are many student run clubs at the college which are very active in the inter class culturals and other events. Sports wise Johns has one of the best sports complexes in bangalore with hockey being the prominent sport. Basketball and football along with volleyball throwball tennis table tennis cricket and badminton are also important sports in St johns.

Hostel Facilities

4.5

The hostel facilities are impeccable. The newest block was opened in may and houses the MBBS students and pgs. New rooms that are well maintained and the corridord and washrooms are cleaned daily. The total fee for hostel and mess is 1,14,000 per year. Meal quality is slightly below average as the control form student Executive committee was taken away earlier and has led to the downfall of the mess system. Registration is along with theadmission procedure in the college.

Admission

I didn't apply to any other colleges however i did get admission in dr sommervelil medical college in kerala and i rejected it because St Johns was better rated and had a better reputation. The neet exam is the only way of entrance. There is no NRI quota. 2022 batch cutoff was just below 500 marks.

Faculty

4

Faculty to student ratio is about 10:1 which is a very good number. 2 internal assessments 1 prelims before the university exam. 40 percent is required for eligibility. Same for practicals. Exams while not easy, depends on your hardwork.

Course Curriculum Overview:

curriculum is designed to be highly relevant and comprehensive for modern medical practice.Early Clinical Exposure is One of the strongest aspects of the curriculum is introducing students to patients in their very second year. The final year of the curriculum—the Compulsory Rotatory Residential Internship (CRRI) is effective it prepares students for the high-pressure environment of Indian healthcare, making them very capable of handling emergencies and outpatient departments (OPD ). Students feel that lectures are still too focused on passive PowerPoint presentations.Rigorous schedule, integrating "Life Skills" or "Stress Management" modules more formally into the foundation course would be helpful. The university exams (RGUHS) are generally fair but require a very high level of descriptive writing and practical precision.
