Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

The Artificial Intelligence and Data Science curriculum at PES Modern College is quite comprehensive and relevant to industry needs, covering essential topics like Machine Learning and Big Data. However, it can be theoretical, and more hands-on projects would enhance its practicality. The exam structure is manageable, but some technical subjects can be challenging. Overall, it prepares students well, but updating the curriculum to include emerging technologies like MLOps and more application-based exams would improve its relevance.

Internships Opportunities

3.5

Typically colleges do not provide the internship opportunities for 1st, 2nd and for 3rd year students. However, college only shares the resources related to the same. For final year students, college shares the companies details who offers internships and job opportunities to which students can apply.

Placement Experience

3.5

Students typically become eligible for the placements and internships offered by various companies from the 6th semester itself or sometimes from the 7th semester. This timeline usually helps students to prepare and enhance their skills before entering the job market. Notable companies which are fixed and offers placement every year are as follows: TCS Wipro Cognizant Capgemini Package details:- Varying between 3.5 to 15 LPA this can vary by branch and individual performance. For those who do not secure placements, many students opt for higher studies, pursue internships, or start their own ventures. Additionally, some may take competitive exams or enroll in certification courses to enhance their employability.

Fees and Financial Aid

I took admission in 2021 after completing my Diploma, so I was a direct second year student. The yearly fee for my BE/BTech in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science at PES Modern College of Engineering for my academic years were 57,409. Whereas, fees for Open category students range from ?90,000 to ?95,000, and for SC/NT/ST students, it’s around ?15,000 to ?20,000. Scholarships like Government and Merit-cum-Need are available to ease the financial burden. At the time of my admission, the college was affiliated with SPPU, but from 2024 onwards, it has gained autonomous status, so the fee structure might differ. Overall, the college is good, but the infrastructure (building area) could have been bigger, which would enhance the campus experience.

Campus Life

3.5

The annual fest includes Spandan which is like an annual social gathering. And second is M-pulse which includes technical and Non technical events. Further there are different events like MSports, and other competitions organized by different departments. Although the college only have traditional day and there's no official fresher's party organized by college. So the other events and activities needed to be conducted in unofficial form.

Admission

I secured 92.41% in my diploma and aimed for admission to VIIT or Cummins College, but the cutoff for CS and AI was quite high at the time. My admission was through the government CAP rounds as a direct second-year student, which included two rounds followed by an extended spot round. After reviewing the ratings of PES Modern College of Engineering, which were quite impressive, I decided to take admission here.

Faculty

4

The faculty-to-student ratio at college is fairly balanced, allowing students to receive adequate attention. Faculty members are approachable and helpful, especially when it comes to clearing doubts and mentoring students for projects and career guidance. Notable Faculty for me, Prof. and HOD Dr. Mrs Shraddha Pandit ma'am stands out for their expertise in Data/Cloud Domain. While teaching she simplify complex topics and focus on practical applications, making the learning experience more engaging. Apart from teaching, the course structure is relevant and updated, especially with the shift to autonomous status in 2024. The exam system is divided into mid- term mid-term exams, final term exams, and practical assessments. The difficulty level of the exams is moderate. Overall, the faculty and curriculum provide a solid foundation, but like any college, some improvements in exam preparation and curriculum relevance to the latest trends could enhance the experience further.
