Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

The first year of Thapar has the same subjects for all of its students from all branches. After the second year onwards, they start focussing more on the course but still are not close to it. From the third year, which I am in right now, the courses are highly relevant to your branch and you study only subjects which are related to your course. I have 6 subjects which include 2 electives (one paid and one free) and 4 subjects from our course. I think Thapar can improve in making the exams a bit easier and also giving exams from what they teach because many times they provide them for us and then the questions can't be found in them. They just are related to the topics that are in the ppt.

Internships Opportunities

4

Thapar provides each student with his or her university email where they receive internship mails daily. Every day, many company offers come through for internships. Thapar also provides an internship-oriented semester in 4th year. Thapar provides many opportunities for students who are serious about their studies and careers. Right now they are providing internships at JP Morgan, which itself is a very big company. Thapar also provides other internships like geeks for geeks or companies like Tata Consultancy services, etc.

Placement Experience

4.5

You get eligible for placements from the start of the 7th semester. The placements from Thapar are amazing. Companies like Google, Amazon and Microsoft come to Thapar. The average package is around 12.1 LPA and the highest is 55.56 LPA. Around 82% of students are placed on campus. I plan to do a masters in my degree after college so I will probably prepare for the U.S

Fees and Financial Aid

I am in the 5th semester and my father paid Rs. 2,69,792 for this semester. The admission fee was Rs10,000 with an extra Rs1000 for the Alumni fee. The tuition fee during my admission was around Rs1,00,000 (99,900 for the previous batch), and the development fee was Rs26,000 after which they added other fees to it and the total came out to be around Rs1,26,700. Caution fees were Rs 20,000 for my course, which is also variable depending on the course. This whole fee structure also revolves around the quota, which is higher for some students like foreign nationals and NRIs and lower for SC/STs. The college does provide scholarships after admission, where if you score a high GPA, you can opt for a scholarship. One of my friends got a scholarship of over 3lakhs from the college after scoring above 9.5cgpa in the first semester. Students coming from other countries like Nepal get scholarships like study in India too. I know cuz many Nepali's here came through that program

Campus Life

4.5

Campus life is great. Many events take place in Thapar like Saturnalia or Thapar Food Festival. Thapar's Library is one of the best libraries in the world and you can search for it online. It has all the books you could ever need. From novels to your course books, every book is present here and if you need on , you can request for it and they will come through in a week's time. The campus has many sports events and many sports facilities both indoors and outdoors. There are some students who have a youtube channel related to their college life in Thapar University

Hostel Facilities

4.5

So First-year students don't get AC in the first sem and use a common washroom. from the second semester, you have an option to get air-conditioned rooms. Rooms range from 1 to 4 students in a room and hostels are allotted on a CGPA basis after the first year. From the Second year onwards you can opt for a washroom attached between 2- 2 seater rooms. One of the downsides that many students might not find, but I do, is that Thapar University has a PURE VEG mess and I'm a pure NON-VEG so its kinda difficult for me to adjust but , at the same time there are many shops on campus that sell nonveg so it isn't that difficult of a shift.

Admission

Thapar University has a name for itself and a prestigious reputation that it upholds. I applied to VIT but that was too far. I dint want to apply to Manipal since the type of student life there is, id stop studying fully. I dint want to apply to KIT. DU was a priority but since I didn't get a seat there, Thapar was my best option. Besides my cousin also studied at Thapar University. The admission was smooth. There is a whole society to guide you through the admission process from the moment you step into the college right to the doorstep of your hostel room. Thapar does have a very strict cutoff for my branch and other branches too, so if your looking for a college, you need to get the right scores.

Faculty

3.5

There are different numbers of batches for different branches. My branch has 14 subgroups(CS1-CS14). We are divided into 3 major groups.CS1-CS5, CS6-CS10 and the remaining 11,12,13 and 14 are together. There's one faculty for each subject for each group. I wouldn't take the names of any of the faculty here but I'd like to say that Mr. Prashant Rana Is one of the best mentors you could have as a student. He can guide you through to get your dream placement. There are a few faculties that I dislike (like the one madam who taught us Energy and Environment in Year 1). But they don't give you a hard time. You be on their good side, and they will make sure you are awarded for it. Speaking of exams, Thapar holds sessionals one month after every semester begins which include quizzes, practicals and lab evaluations (including viva) and the holds the Mid Semester exams. After 1.5 months from the mid semester come the second quizzes and sessionals and the end semester exams.
