What Students Say
Likes
- Some teachers are really helpful specially the PHD scholars.
- Technical/Cultural clubs are good to make connections and learn new things.
- They have a girls hostel. They used to have a boys hostel too but it was demolished in 2022. They have plans to rebuild it but it will take some years.
Dislikes
- The infrastructure is not good. There are minimal places to sit in the campus. Except 2-3 classes in the whole engineering department, rest are not Air-conditioned and get extremely humid in the summers. Almost Unbearable.
- There are very less amenities in the college. Water coolers work rarely and never on a hot summer day. The food is eatable if and only if you are very hungry and is costly acoording to a government college.
- The rainy season of YMCA is another story altogether. It is built on a lower ground than the roads around it so all the water gets inside. The water level becomes knee high after 1-2 hours of rain.
Course Curriculum Overview
Curriculum in terms of relevance, I can't say as of now but the syllabus is too much and too hard in B.Tech. Even some of the teachers agree and have told us that the syllabus we have to do in one semester is worth 3 semesters to say the least. There are 7-8 subjects in every semester.
Internships Opportunities
The college offers some placement opportunities during the placement season. The average stipend is around 15k. The students also have to complete one internship and get it approved by the college to get their degree.
Placement Experience
Placements are fine i think. Few students from CE, ENC and ECE get really good placements. Rest of the students get mediocre placements. Students become eligible for placements from 7th semester. Many students choose to study further.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fees for every semester is around 40-50k which includes Tuition Fees- 34000 Development Fees- 9000 Exam fees- 1500 Misc-500 Other fees-3205 This is the fees for every category except TFW. Also, there are a few scholarships, soft loans available but they are difficult to get. I myself don't know alot about them because i haven't applied. They are not available for general category students as far as i am aware.
Campus Life
Overall the college life is not very fun. If you are not a part of clubs, there is very little this college has to offer in terms of social aspects. The students come at 8:30am to attend the classes, lunch is from 12:30 to 1:30pm. The classes end around 4-4:30, are five days a week. The college has a fest named Culmyca which has happened around 5 years back i think. There are 7-8 clubs including technical and cultural. They are good.
Admission
I chose this college because it's in my city and it being a government college has good reputation over here. I wish the college was a little more focused on the student's personal growth than just marks and exams. The students try their best to make something of their college life because there are no fests and rarely any events. The clubs organise some small events over the year.
Faculty
Faculty is okay. Most of them are approachable. The sessional exams are conducted twice in a semester. After the second sessional immediately there are externals practical exams and then final exams. Sessionals are of 15 marks each subject. Some teachers take sessionals of 30 marks. The finals are of 75 marks. Internals consists of 25 marks which includes your attendance, assignments, sessionals and class behaviour.
