Course Curriculum Overview
The basic infrastructure probided by college attracts any other students. Lab rooms are far better compared to different college scenarios . Symposiums conduction and participation boosts confidence in students . Sports and clubs also enables to stand up and talk. Computer lab rooms are great, but computers are not always in good condition. Not everyone can afford a Laptop too... So it would be better if better facilities are given at labs. Mechanical labs are great and fun to work too. Exams are centralized (internals) ad it helps more. For long semesters, internal exams are being conducted in around 1.5 months gap approx. For short semesters, internal exams are conducted in a gap of 1 month each approx. A semester includes 2 internals exams (2.5 units each), 1-2 Model exams, 2 Remedial exams (for required students). Protiins are taken and Largq question banks are provided based on the topics covered. This helps students to develop a deep knowledge in the unit portions.
Internships Opportunities
Baytech is a company that deals with the placement training and internships ffered in college. They have an internship at our college after 3 rd semester. It was about Python , HTML etc... Projects provided by other staffs (database of Hodspitals, banks) are helpful for learning practicals. College deals with sevral ohtide projects mainly done by staffs, but selected/interested students can have exporsure with them.
Placement Experience
• From 7 th semeter onwards, students start to get olacemnts and interviews at different levels , of different companies. • TCS, Qspiders, Baytech are some of the companies that visits the college for selecting process. • The offers depends on the criterias demanded by the companies. • Tier 1, Tier 2, Tier 3 companies visits college on different times. • Placement is secured by around 80% of the students. • Maximum companies supports students and students also exhibit great perfimrmances . • My Plan is to grab an opportunity from the college placements. • The companies allocate students as interns at difeerent parts(cities) of India (Hyderabad, Chennai, Bangalore) • Either as inters or as new joiner, the students can select as per the offers.
Fees and Financial Aid
I pay INR 55,000 per year as course fees( regulations are provided for students who secure above 90% for 12 th Board exams). Fees varies at departments, family background, financial background etc... First graduates pay 30,000 INR as academic fees Bus fees ranges from 4000 to 10,000 (or above) badlsed on locations and hostelers. Admission fees - INR 10,000 Association fund - INR 2,500 (compulsory) College Day Fund - INR 3,300 (compulsory/ varies per annum) Farewell Fund - INR 300(varies per annum) Mess fees - INR 5250(for hostelers and others ) Exam fees - according to University announcements Placement & Training Fund - INR 5,000 (compulsory) Insurance Fund - INR 200 (compulsory) Medical fees - (if used any medical facilities) Fine for late fee payments No scholarships provided(some cases are provided, but not secured by any students.) No fee considerations for Intra-state students. Students (of Tamil Nadu) have applied for several scholarships, but haven't gotten till date. An association named 'Ephraem Manna' runs to help critically needed children (eligible under college supervision criterias)
Campus Life
Onam, Pongal, IV, Christmas, etc are held in odd semester. From September to January these celebrations are being held. Every departments have their own sections in the library apart from the general areas. Library is very spacious and pretty amazing. Books that cost more than twenty thousand (specimens) are available for reference purposes. Projector availability and utilisation enables classes being taken efficiently and the smart classes are better for students to understand too. Sports participation is very active and its very obvious for Mar Ephraemians to win prizes in University events. Kho Kho, Basket ball, Ball tennis, Football, Athletics events are being sent for out competiotions... Other games like carroms, chess, are conducted at lower levels. NCC , NSS , literacy clubs are also highly active in campus. Blood donation camps supported by staffs and students also is a highlight.
Hostel Facilities
Hostel for girls is not run by college. Girls reside on outer campus with separate fees. Only boys hostel is in the college College management is unwillng and turns face back , when in times of helpnneeded by girls hostelers. This irresponsible behaviour is little disappointing. They need to pay around 30000 INR for college, 5250 INR for college mess, and separate 4000 INR as bus fees. Almost all the colleges provides free bus service to hostelers, but this is different in Mar Ephraem. The entire scenario is different compared to boys hostelers. They pay 36000 INR for a sem while girls pay 39250 for a sem. Meal and menu varies according to the warden assigned to hostel. Boys hostelers take food from college mess all the day since their hostel is inside the campus. Girls who take food from girls hostel need not pay fees on Mess. A caution deposit of RS.7000 INR is paid on admission time. RS.5000 INR is being paid on every month (monthly fees payment , not Semester wise). Registration process is simple, with the required ID proofs and cash payments. Girls hostel is around 45 minutes travel distance far from the campus.
Admission
I applied to another college in Nagercoil(St. Xavier's Catholic College) I got confirmation from that college ad this college. Since this college was comparitively near, I got admission here. my family choose this college too. We have contacted the admission cell and I had a small personal interview with a faculty member . After the intierview I got admitted to the college and I joined the college , the very next day itself. St. Xavier's College was on my admission list, but they were running out of seats, so finally I made it on Mar Ephraem. They appreciate above average students in academics by offering a fee reduction of ?30,000 from annual tution fees . The asmission process wasn't much complicated. Interview was conducted and Admission fees was paid.
Faculty
In first year, a total of 15 students were assigned to staff mentor. (Later it disappeared! ) There is atleast a five staff for the department. (even for the latest added department) Second year onwards students enter into department classes and each student is being carefully monitored by the faculties. We can openly communicate and share with the department staffs. They provide great hand-in-hand support to lagging students. My department HOD (Dr. D Dhanya ) and my class in charge (S Shobhana) and our only male staff of department (Jino Singh ) are my favourite. Their approach towards students and kind heartedness of teachers (especially Shobhana ma'am) is amazing. She supprts us even in our lowest times. Jino sir interacts well with the students and make us more confident through his classes apart from the syllabus. HOD always lends a hand for extra curricular activities supports. The faculty I hate is Office staffs. Some members are too sweet to interact but certain departments (like mess, buss and cashier) treat students with utter disrespectful and doubts. They treat students like dolls who should act upon their wishes...and are truly unwilling to provide a help for them and act in favour of the srudent.
Interview Experience
I went through a personal interview during college admission The importance of my course, the recent scope of AI were discussed. The way I reached to this college was another discussion topic. They also asked about how I ended up taking B.Tech after taking science group in 12 th standard. The questions were simple and they made answer by providing a friendly environment . Via online trainings and parents' instructions, I orepared for the interview. At last there was a combined discussion for me with my parents and the admission cell faculty member.
