Course Curriculum Overview

3

The curriculum is kind of out of touch, with the recent changes in medical curriculum and cbme( competency based medical education). It is also not so focused MCQs and practical knowledge based like it is in most foreign countries. But overall it is manageable and with some extra seperate efforts will be enough to get into most universities for masters.

Internships Opportunities

3

A compulsory one year internship is there in the hospital attached. It's for 12 months and we get only 12 holidays. There will be rotations in all departments including night shifts and long duties. Sundays are not a holiday either. We are also sent to Sathya Sai hospital, cv raman government hospital and Vydehi super speciality hospital ( formerly Mallya hospital). We also have a one month rural outpost posting. Stipend is 16k per month.

Fees and Financial Aid

I got a government seat. First year is 1,51,000 as tution fee and 1,25,000 as extra lab fee, admission fee and other charges. From second year onwards it is 1,23,000 per year. For private quota seats it is around 11 Lakhs per annum. For management quota total comes around to 1.8 Crores for the entire course. There is transportation facility which is 27000 for non AC buses and 37000 for AC buses. Hostel fees are 2.7 lakhs per annum. Sc/St fee- is 500 Rs as tuition fee rest all remain the same.

Campus Life

2

Joining vydehi is bidding farewell to social life. The institution focuses too much on academics and is not built around social or cultural events. These days there is an attempt going on they are doing a fest once 2 years and 2 fests have been done till now. It's still not that good and adds extra pressure as all the events are after college hours. Campus is pretty big but not much time or opportunities to explore. There is one cement basketball court.

Admission

I went through the Karnataka state counseling based on my neet score, which was 576 in 2022. I had an All india rank of 33000. I had applied for many other colleges and my score got me into vydehi with the cutoff. I had applied on the basis of ranking. Neet is the only accepted exam for the course and eligibility through neet is a must.

Faculty

2

There are around 5-10 faculty in each department for 250 ratio. It's very hard for a single person to control a class of 250. A lot of them are not pleasant. The entire environment is quite toxic. There are 3-4 internals each year. 2nd ones are usually made harder and sometimes we are failed on purpose to motivate us to study better. Around 50 students failed to clear the final exams in their first attempt in 1st year.

Other Applied Colleges

Hassan Institute of Medical Sciences - [HIMS] | Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS)

My neet ranking was not upto the cutoff

Shimoga Institute of Medical Sciences - [SIMS] | Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS)

My neet ranking was not upto the cut off

Course Curriculum Overview:

curriculum is designed to be highly relevant and comprehensive for modern medical practice.Early Clinical Exposure is One of the strongest aspects of the curriculum is introducing students to patients in their very second year. The final year of the curriculum—the Compulsory Rotatory Residential Internship (CRRI) is effective it prepares students for the high-pressure environment of Indian healthcare, making them very capable of handling emergencies and outpatient departments (OPD ). Students feel that lectures are still too focused on passive PowerPoint presentations.Rigorous schedule, integrating "Life Skills" or "Stress Management" modules more formally into the foundation course would be helpful. The university exams (RGUHS) are generally fair but require a very high level of descriptive writing and practical precision.
