Course Curriculum Overview

4

I like the curriculum of Maths as it allows me to smoothly segway into a career in finance (with my minor as economics). The applciations of what we are learning are explained well by professors if you ask. Sometimes studying the abstract concepts makes it feel a little pointless but then if you have the right teachers and Minor subject you will feel like you are on the right path. The frequency of exams gets hectic in November in the odd semester but their difficulty remains average to above average. Getting an 8 GPA is not tough.

Internships Opportunities

4

The highest stipend offered for an internship is 4.4 lakhs, with 100+ internship offers being made last year. Many prestigious companies come to campus for internships, including Macquarie, HUL, WWT, McKinsey, etc. We have been offered positions such as Data Science Intern and Consulting Intern and more.

Placement Experience

4

We become eligible for placements in our third year (so the fifth semester). We can sit for internships before that. Many prestigious companies visit our campus, including McKinsey, HUL, BCG, BlackStone, BlackRock etc. The highest package offered in DU history is from our college (and my course!) which was 48.9 lakh p/a by BlackStone to a student in Batch of 2024. The average package is 10.5 lakh p/a. There were 215 final placement offers. My plans after the degree are to enter the world of finance or consulting, hopefully. I am also open to higher studies or an MBA. Maths H keeps a lot of doors open.

Fees and Financial Aid

I pay around 24000 an year. Scholarships (such as Azim Prem Scholarship) and aid are available though I do not possess much knowledge of the same. For the nation's top women's college this fees is very affordable!

Campus Life

4

I enjoy my overall campus life. Our annual fest is Tarang, which is held around February or March in the even semesters. We also have a diwali fest, Noor, which is open only to the student body and other department fests where we can invite speakers and host competitions. The library is very accessible and we also have a reference section. The new building classrooms are definitely better than the old building classrooms (the classes for Maths happen all in the new building). It does get extremely hot in the summer, especially in the Auditorium, which is not equipped with ACs. I cannot speak much for the sports faculties but we have a Tennis Court and a Basketball Court and an open gym. We have around 33 societies and even more unrecognized cells and clubs, which are one of the best way to grow as an individual in your time at college.

Admission

I am a part of the CUET batch, and Maths in LSR was my eighth preference. I had applied to NMIMS and got in for Economics (H) but withdrew my admission after receiving our CUET scores and percentiles. I did not wish to study from a private university and also did not want to pay this much for an undergraduate degree. I also got in to Xavier's in Mumbai for BCom. This was not an honours degree so it was low on my priority list. I was also not keen on studying in Mumbai. I did not have other backups as I was fairly confident in my performance in CUET and knew that even if not in my top 5 colleges (SRCC, LSR, Stephens, Hindu, Hansraj in my opinion), I would still secure admission in a good DU college. I had not anticipated getting Maths (H) but do not regret that decision. Choosing Lady Shri Ram College for Women over both those other options was a very simple choice. Even though economics was my dream degree I was equally okay with doing Maths, especially from the nation's top women's college that had better placements for Math than placements for Econ and Bcom in most colleges.

Faculty

4

There are enough faculty members in the Maths department. The relationship with almost all of them is very collaborative and supportive. We enjoy the time we spend in their classroom as they are empathetic to our plight and understand that even college students are coming from a very overworked and exhausted space. The best faculty is Monica ma'am (Riemann integration). She teaches in a very meticulous manner and ensures that each and every student leaves her class fully understanding the subject at hand. We have around 2 IAs and 1 CA per subject, along with assignments or retests as and when requested or given. The teachers are approachable regarding this too. We have subjects where we have given around 2-3 retests itself. Aside from internals, we have end-semester exams twice in a year (One year is 2 semesters). There are very few cases of fails, although many do appear for improvement papers. The course curriculum is very relevant although the readings need some updation.

Night Life

3

I have not lived in the LSR Hostel and it has been closed to the student body for renovation for a while. The library shuts down around 6:00 pm and the reference library closes around 8:00 pm. The locality is mostly safe except for the area in front of Frank Anthony School recently. The Nescafe inside campus is very popular.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The curriculum consists of relatable topics and interesting ones as well this is what quite influenced me to take this course. We have labs which help us learn how to prepare various organic compounds which are used in many day to day products . The course also has a 4th year research program. There should be more equipments in lab for the research. The frequency is good for exams being conducted and there level is also quite good

The students become eligible for the placements provided by the college in their 3rd year, while they can pursue internship offered by the college in previous years. Average sized companies visited the campus with lots of students being placed for jobs. The highest package I am not aware of but lowest was of around 300000 pa. I plan to pursue masters after my graduation degree.

Students become eligible for campus placements from the 6th semester. I don't know a lot about campus placements but I know that there is a training and placement cell in our college that provides good packages to many students. Some students got more than 7lpa last year. I will be doing my Post graduation after college and will make a career in academics.
