Course Curriculum Overview

4

The course offers various papers including sociology of relgiion, stratification, economic sociology, political sociology. These help gain in depth knowledge of the discipline- the core ideas of thinkes and helps alot in understanding society as such through various concepts. The curriculum is well designed, though some readings are hard to comprehend and may take some time but overall its a 10/10 course. The imrpovement i feel could be done in terms of some time/ classes. Due to NEP- not very gaining subjects such as SEC, VAC have been introduced shifting attention away from the core course and ultimately having fewer number of lectures. This is a serious problem. The exams are usually in 5 months, not very hard to pass. However IA and CA assessments continue throughout the semester- this does make managing things harder specially if you are involved in any society.

Internships Opportunities

3

Well many internships are offered during the cycle - including paid and unpaid both. To be completely honest - I did not go through this process and am not really sure about it. However the process is really long, with each pointer in your CV has to vetted and verified, with relevant proofs.

Placement Experience

3

Campus Placements are competitive and hard to get. Usually multiple offers are limited to few disciplines such as Commerce or economics. While many arts students usually dont sit for placements in that high a number. Highest packages have gone upto around 45LPA, while average package remains somewhere around 12-14 LPA While companies such as BCG,. mckinsey etc do visit campus and as I said- they are more economics and commerce oriented but other discipline students also get placed- just not in these high numbers. Usually around 8-9 GPA is a good score for placemets. The employability is good in the market as the college does have strong Alumni Network and also is a recognised and reputed name in the job market.

Fees and Financial Aid

Every year I pay somewhere around 30000- 32000 ( 2semesters). It is higher than other courses in the college because in the third year the department conducts a week long field trip and the cost of all this is accomodates in the fee only. Yes there has been a rise in the fee for this course. Fee does vary as per the category and also college does give some freeships and scholarships - totally based on income criteria ( annual income less than 2,50,000 rupees) along with merti. I donot have much information on this because I did not avail it. Other than this there is ofcourse the fee for binders and study materials - it is usually 400-500 per semester.

Campus Life

4

Tarang is our annual 3 day festival, usually held in march- THIS IS REALLY GOOD. with multiple competiitons, brands and artists this fest is one of the best in DU. Along with that NOOR - one day diwali mela is also a huge deal with various stalls and DJ for the students to enjoy. DBR sports meet also occura once a year, with various exciting prizes and mutliple universitites and colleges competing. Along with that college does have vast societies- Music, Dramatics, Marketing and Fashion are a few to mention. The NSO and NSS are really active - offering students with sports options such as football, badminton, tennis, volleyball and social service is NSS which has around 28 projects operating under it. Classrooms are actually equipped with projectors but the desks need upgradation, fans are not that much and AC;s are non existent. In summers the college does get very difficult to survive in as the classrooms are also not very big/ spacious.

Admission

I did apply to Chandigarh University, and I did get into it however an honours in PU is for 4 years while at DU its for 3/4 years both- this was a major decisive point. also DU does hold more respect and honour in terms of a university and specially LSR does give you that exposure, growth and confidence. The procedure is - You apply for CUET after boards, the exams are separate for each subject as in - english, economics etc and are usually MCQ's. For our course, in lsr 2024 the cutoff score - out of total 800 marks was 748. The entire admission process is online and smooth- with multiple information sessions by the university experts

Faculty

4

For our course, the batch sizes are small (45) and every professor who has taught you- will know something about you. They are very approachable, helpful and guiding in any problems faced by the students. In fact tutorial periods are taken with seriousness. End sem exams are pretty decent - one can easily pass them, usually repetitive questions are asked. However the internal assessments are difficult to handle as for each paper you have to do a - presentation, research paper - most often and a test. These become hectic for us. the course curriculum is really well made and exciting. I would definitely suggest it.

Night Life

2

The nightlife is non existent. The campus closes around 7 since its not a residential campus. The hostel hasnt been available since last 3 sessions as it is being labelled as under renovation. But college does have few eating spots- the cafeteria/ canteen has a huge MENU, we also have a Nescafe and a mother dairy booths. Street food vendors are right near the back gate - all these do provide alot of options and diversity of food in campus.

Other Applied Colleges

Lovely Professional University - [LPU] | Bachelor of Arts [BA] (Sociology)

LSR has more of a reputation and is a government funded college with lower fees than this

Placement Experience:

Placements are available in college, the drive is quite extensive, everyone is made aware of the choices and options and counselling is present too. It is from the third year, students are eligible to apply for placements. Companies and organisations take part such as Niti ayog, Times, Geostrata, Prajatantra foundation, etc. Those who desire usually work on their CVs, keep on doi internships and then get a placement. The packages are not that impressive to be honest.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course is really very interesting. It keeps up with our expectations. Involves both practical and theoretical aspects to make sure that we are able to face the real world. Also, with the help of the guidance that we get from teachers we're able to ace both the aspects. The examinations also are based on applications, thus, helping us to enhance ourselves in all possibilities.

The course offers many things for students interms of their further academic pursuits or any placement they are looking for. Talking about the areas of improvement and teaching methods there are none. The exams of the respective subject are to happen. They take test 1 , test 2 and there is final exams.

I got a seat in Ramjas College. It is a north-campus college. The infrastructure is too good compared to the remaining colleges. The teaching also going well but I faced some language problems. I'm from south India so I don't understand Hindi properly. But here mostly they teach in Hindi only and English is used very rarely.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course itself is prestigious and is mostly opted for by people who plan either on preparing for the Civil Services or those who want to pursue academia. The course structure is framed in a manner that you don't just simply study history there, but you ingrain a critical viewpoint of a young historian. The faculty of History Hons. has some of the best Professors in the University, although you will in any course at any college find some teachers below your expectations, you don't have to bear them for more than 1 or 2 semesters. Passing the exams is not very difficult, but yes scoring above average is. If you get a GPA ranging from 6 to 7, you've performed fine. Above that is considered a Very good performance in Hons. courses of Social sciences at Delhi University. there are semester exams every 5- 6 months
