Neenu Ann James's Review On Stella Maris College, Chennai

The Stella Maris College offers 40 seats in the P.G course. They conduct an entrance exam for the students who apply online for the course. Along with the written exam, there is also an interview with the heads of the department of English. I scored 70% in the exam and 4.5 in the interview out of 5. The college was known for the great exposure that it provides especially in the department of English.

The course curriculum was excellent. It included almost every literature of the world. It also had various theories and those literature that helped in the professional areas. The electives that were very interesting in the study of the four semesters are Detective Fiction, Content Writing, English Language Teaching, New Contemporary Fiction. The course also had electives from different departments in the 2nd and 4th semesters. I chose Psychology in the 2nd semester and Creative designing in the 4th semester.

The department offered an internship course before the 3rd semester. But it had to be done during the summer vacation. This was to make sure that the students did not loose the other subjects in the curriculum. As for the English Department, the internship was done in schools, advertisement companies, in newspapers and medias and also in many e-book publishing companies. The college also offered some students to take up in the building up of the language in some underprivileged villages.

There were lot of placements and job opportunities provided by the college, brought in many companies. The major companies were Cognizant, Tata Consultancy Services and UST Global, were our department had to go on as technical writers and content writers, also some publishing companies like Exeter appeared to grab us on those fields. There were also some school level approaches like the Indian School and the Talentese. The offers and the packages started from 3,00,000 per annum.

I have been enrolled to an aided course in the college and was funded by the state and hence was not that expensive and henceis not aware of any loans which is provided by the college.

The campus life is extra cool . Its a girls only college but have workshops, cultural societies which help in the student to understand different culture and ethnic . The college has good tolerance with regards to gender, ethnicity, race, religion, sexual orientation, politics and economic status
