Is Thapar Worth it?

I chose computer engineering because it has components of both hardware and software in it making it diverse. The curiculum for this is good however can be updated to focus more on engineering aspect of the course. The course prepares for real world making it easy to choose variety of careers. The frequency and timing is same as others.

Thapar offers good internship oppurtunities be it in rsearch or coporate . The internships start from second year with a good stipend . If it is a reseach internship in Thapr lab , you will get 5000 per month but if it is company related it can be really good.

The campus does offer placements. Top companies like Google, Apple,Microsoft vist Thapar and even recruit students from here. Students become eligible to apply from 4th semester. Highest offer made was 55 lakh and average is 11 lakh. About 70 to 80 percent of students get placed. My plans after getting degree is to do job for 3 to 4 years and then probably go for masters.

The year wise fees can be divided into tuition and hostel . Year wise tuition fees is 298000 for each semester with an additional of 30000 as admission fee in first semester. The hostel fees can varry depending upon type of room you choose but for a year it can go around 130000 . Fees is ame in caste categories but different for some courses. Varios scholorships are provided upon need as well as merit. Need based scholorship is for annual family income less than equal to 10 lakh.

Many events are conducted in Thapar . One of the biggest event is Saturnalia. It is a tech event which includes varoius tech related games, hackathons, electronics competition etc. Singers and Comedians come for the event like Mohit Chauhan, Amit Trivedi etc. THe library is the most beautiful part of Thpar. It is ranked 7th best university library in world. It has many books and e- books as well. The classrooms have smartboard for students . Thapar has many sport events including Thaparlympics. Many clubs for dance, coding speaking , art etc are present.

The rooms are really nice , fully furnished with Ac , comfortable chairs and beds. The staff as well is very sweet. The mess food is really nice . The menu is all vegetarian with only egg as non veg option.

I applied to various colleges through JOSAA counselling . I was getting Mechanical at NIT Jalandhar, CSE at VIT, some colleges through comedk and varios others. I chose this due to good exposure and reputation of college. I did not get good marks in JEE mains so I didn't get a good branch or nit. I had given Advance as well but did not get anything good in that so decide to join Thapar. The University takes students on Jee Mains and Board score. There is a reservation for punjab students as well. Most of the students prefer computer engineering, computer science engineering and electronics and computer engineering.

The student to faculty ratio is good but can be improved more. The faculties are easily approchable. You can approach them in their cabins any time. I really like the engineering drawing and mechanical faculty. They are really helpful and take interest in their branches. The Maths faculty is also good.The Computer faculty and Electrical faculty can be improved . There are Mid semester exam and then End semester exam in one semester and the same is repeated for the next semester. Overall in a year , there are two mid semester and two end semester exams. The level is moderate. There are quizzes,vivas,tests , projectas as well for various subjects.

There are many Hangout spots in Thapar. Literally every block has some place to eat and rest. THe most famous is Jaggi, Ahaar and Kravings. Gyms are present in each hostel. Skywalk is one of the famous hangout spots including waterbody cafe.
