Course Curriculum Overview

4

While preparing for jee, I was a good in physics and chemistry subject. After qualifying the exam when I need to set my priorities , i consulted with various seniors and relatives of mine and decided to choose chemical engineering at IIT Kharagpur. One big misconception among everyone is that Chemical engineering involves chemistry only so it's a big lie. Chemistry is a different department in my college. Chemical engineering involves mostly physics and some maths and some chemistry. Subjects like fluid transfer ,heat transfer, thermodynamics, transform calculus , chemical reaction engineering, instrumentation engineering and many more involved a major physics part involving mathematics calculations so its not what people think. Chemistry is involved very less in chemical engineering. Some subjects are having syllabus which is very vast for getting completed in a semester so it should be regulated according to the time available as student has a limited time to complete syllabus for all subjects which sometimes create a burden on his head. Some digital methods used in foreign countries colleges can be adopted too like some small practical while teaching to make subject more interesting. In every semester we have midsem and endsem with a gap of around 2 months. Exams are a hectic period for everyone and are slightly difficult as competition is high as everyone have qualified a toughest exam of the country so you will not get a very easy paper.

Fees and Financial Aid

Year wise fees is 1.5 lakh i used to pay I fall under 1 lakh to 5 lakh family income category therefore I get a discount on tuition fees which is 1 lakh per semester,we get around 66% discount on that. Hostel fees is around 34000. Lab fees Is around 5000.gymkhana charges are around 900 and internet and medical facilities charges around 2000. Sc st people are in a great benefit there tuition fees is 100%off. It does not depends on whether a person is financially stable or not ,if he his father has crores of wealth ,even than also he has the benefit of free education in the college. The people whose family income lies above 5 lakh per annum pays full fees which is 3 lakh per annum. Various scholarships for daughters of militarty staff, sc/st scholarships, merit cum scholarships and some private scholarships are provided.

Campus Life

4

There are two major fests of my college naming spring fest and kshitij fest both held in the month of January. Various activities are held in these fests and a vast population from different colleges attend this fest. Various competitions are also held which are a fun to attend. Our library is very big, we can issue around 5 books . We can also access e books too. Our classrooms are having central ac as well as projectors and screen too. Seating arrangements are also very good. Various opportunities for sports and other activities are there in the college. I myself founded a martial arts club in my college . Any student can find out clubs by gathering interested people with them. A vasr no of societies are available for various activities.

Admission

As i was having a chance to choose among iits, nits and various other colleges too, i choose IIT Kharagpur because of various reasons such as best alumini connection, better laboratories and research opportunities. Best facilities and greater chance for getting into best companies. As it is among top 4 iits , I applied for IIT Delhi too but did not get my interested branch so I choose this as my interest was also lieng around this. For admission, a student needs to qualify jee mains and advanced and score a better rank to get a seat in IIT Kharagpur. Around 10-12 lakh people sit in for jee mains and 2-3 lakh for jee advanced . Around 30000 people qualify jee advanced and it depends upon your rank ,which department you get.

Faculty

4

The faculty to student ratio can not be exactly told but for a particular semester we have around 5-6 professors teaching us the course as well as some faculty guiding us in laboratories. Personally ,i have a good relationship with the faculty and they are really supportive for everyone. If you need any help they would definitely help.yoi with that. My department professors are mostly i interacted with and they all are best as they help.in every possible way to make their subject easy to understand. Apart from academics help can also be taken from them. There are 1 to 2 class test per semester for each subject and midsem and endsem exams too. In most of the subjects more than 96% people usually pass the subject. As my department is chemical society subjects are related to core chemical and helps to deepen my concepts.

Night Life

5

Mostly people in the campus roam at night and eat at night canteens of college which runs for around 4 am in the morning. No restrictions are there too roam inside the campus. But you cannot leave the campus after 11 pm and upto 4 am . You need permissions for that. We have a good gym facilities which we can attend in the morning as well as evening. Various places are there too hangout with friends. Various restaurants and outlets are there inside the campus such as pfc ,smart pind , dominoes, ccd etc. It is safe to roam inside the campus at night as security is really high inside the campus.

The campus placements happen in final year of the course. There is a well established placement cell to conduct the on-campus placements. Many well renowned companies visit our college namely Microsoft, Google, TI, TSL, PWC, ICICI, ABG. L&T, etc. The highest package was 50LPA and the average was around 9LPA. Over 90% students got placed from across every department and details of the placement is also available in the college official website. I have gotten a job from the on-campus drive to a core company.

The placements of our college are below average. Studies for placement are more or less relevant from second semester. companies like tcs, amazon etc do visit our campus however very few are selected with package above 4-5 LPA. Most of the students seek out for higher studies and that's my plan too.

After the 6th semester, the students are eligible for placements. Mass recruiters like TCS, Wipro, Infosys, Accenture, Capgemini, etc visit every year and pick up 80-100 students per company. Other companies like Amazon, Thoughtworks, Etc also visit the college. The highest package offered by our college is 15LPA by Thoughtworks. Every year around 75-80% of students get placed on campus. I plan to get a good job work for 2-3 years and then apply for Masters. Overall the placement is very nice in this college.
