Course Curriculum Overview

4

The course I've taken is BA. We have 6 subjects. You get a wide range of subjects to choose from. English is compulsory, other than that 6 more subjects have to be selected. One language has to be chosen from German, French and Marathi. And then the remaining subjects are your major subjects that you have to choose. We have two semesters, each divided into 4 parts. Firstly, 10 marks is for attendance, 15 marks is for unit test/practical/group discussion/presentation/open book test etc. , 25 marks is for onlin MCQ test and 50 marks for End Semester exams.

Placement Experience

2.5

The college provides placements and job opportunities. Certain companies visit the college and students go for interviews. However, the opportunities aren't as great as they say it officially. Internships are also not provided in all depts. It also depends on the faculty to some extent.

College Events

4

Every year Fergusson college celebrates official events at the end of December. Firstly, we celebrate Traditional Day. On this day, everyone wears a traditional outfit and comes to the college. We have a DJ party on that day. Secondly, all the departments have their own fests on two days. For example the Economics dept. has Wallstreet. So it organises all its events for two days. Same for all other depts. Lastly, we have Saree and Tie day on 31st December.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The grant in aid students have lesser fees than the self finance students. The fees are lower for reserved classes and Maharashtra students. It is higher for students out of Maharashtra.

Fees and Financial Aid

Scholarship facilities are available for students in different categories. It is mentioned very well in the college and hostel prospectus as well as on the college website.Scholarships are given to students who belong to backward classes, SC, ST, etc. Students with extraordinary academic performance are also given scholarships.

Campus Life

3.5

We have innumerable activities in the college. Usually, there is some club organizing an event to bring together the students. There are labs for all subjects that need one, for example chemistry lab, physics lab, etc. Every major subject has its own department where the classes usually take place. Sports is given importance as well. We've a huge groung behind the college. There is a basketball court and a badminton court, in the college premises. In the first year, every student has to be a part of NCC (National Cadet Corps), NSS (National Service Scheme) or Physical Education.

Hostel Facilities

4

The Girls hostel and boys hostel almost have the same facilities, but different rules. The infrastructure is quite old-fashioned. It is not the best place nor the worst. The best part about staying in the hostel is that you save transportation cost and you can come to the college at any time even for studying in the library or the college premises. And the worst part, only for girls hostel is that the hostel in time is 8 pm. everyday, except on Sunday, when it is 8:30 pm. The other major problem, again only for girls hostel is that the local guardian of the girl has to come to the Rector office in the college everytime she has to take a leave or a night out.

Alumni/Alumna

Some senior students are helpful. It also depends on the nature of a student. If a student is an introverted person, they are usually unable to talk to their seniors. During events, students are able to connect with their seniors. That is certainly helpful.

Admission

I looked up the best colleges in Economics and found Fergusson College in Pune in the top 20 list. I filled up two forms - self finance and grant in aid admission form online. The id and password made on the college website is used later in the college once you've got admission. The fees for self finance is higher than grant in aid. Grant in aid basically means a major share of our fees is granted by the Govt. So, the percentage is immensely high for grant in aid. For out of Maharashtra students, admission is any way tough. There are no categories for them. There are three merit lists. My name appeared on te third list. Then, I went to the college with the required documents mentioned in the College prospectus. It includes your transfer certificate from school, 10th and 12th marksheet. After submission of documents, our log in id is used to select the 6 subjects you want. After that, we have to pay the yearly fees which was merely around 6000 rupees for grant in aid courses. Payment is done through your college id itself. Lastly, your admission is granted. You will be given the college prospectus and college ID card in a few days from the authority itself.

Faculty

4

The college faculty is good. There are certain teachers who are not upto the mark, but overall the faculty is appropriate.

Quite substandard and below average. Prioritised rote learning over critical thinking. Just a rubber stamp for a degree. No actual education ever took place. Exams were anually or bi annually. Exams were difficult if you cannot write 30 pages in 3 hours.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The curriculam is designed for all round development of the student and to make that person an expert in that field, these aspects influeneced me to choose it. Very well, with extra paper of real world application on each subject it ensures that we take something from the course and become industry ready The teachings methods and cirriculam are excellent I don't think any changes are required Exams are all year round, every month and are extremly difficult to deal with, as Xavier's bar is very high.

Yes, there is no specific place where we get to know that whether the college is open or not on a specific day like the day which has been declared closed by the government. The college doesn’t provide this facility for us. We have to move all towards our home to the college to get this thing.
