Remarks
University of Kalyani is a place where you can have an amazing campus, experience amazing hostel life. Kalyani itself is a very good town to live in. It's not as populated and polluted as other cities. Transportation is very good. Autos and totos connect from station to university. The university has its own bus, which carries teachers and students form railway station.
Course Curriculum Overview
The curriculum is similar to most other universities. Covering the subject as much as possible. The whole course is divided into 10 semesters. Each semester will have 400 marks. Each semester will have an end semester exam and mid semester exams. Mid semester exams can be of written format or viva. Depends on the professor. Presently all the students will have to take CBCS (choice based credit system) in their masters.
Placement Experience
Statistics has wide opportunites in the corporate, govt , research, etc area. The university doesn't have a placement cell yet. And the university doesn't offer internship. Most students try off campus
College Events
Annual sports- inter department sports takes place on that day. Convocation Seminars - different departments organises seminar for their department. The seminar takes place in apj Abdul kalam hall. The hall has very nice infrastructure as it was constructed recently.
Fee Structure And Facilities
Students can pay the fee in two way They can pay the fees for 2 semester at once or pay if semester wise. For integrated MSc in statistics: The fees for sem-1 to SEM 6 is around 14k per annum From semester 7 to sem10 the fees is around 3k per annum. The university has its own finance department who takes care of the fees.
Fees and Financial Aid
The university may or may not provide scholarship or loans. But students can apply for state government scholarship. Swami Vivekananda merit cum means scholarship is one of them. Student may enquire about this in the administrative building.
Campus Life
The university campus is very big There are many fields in the campus. Fellow students play cricket football with their classmates. The university offers a gymnasium and a batminton court. With the permission from HOD the students can practice badminton in the evening. The student can also go to the gymnasium which is sponsored by cricket association of Bengal.
Alumni/Alumna
I am unaware of a perticular body that deals with the alumni. But each and every department organises reunion. Where the alumni are invited. Cultural program and feast are organised by the present students. The junior senior bonding depends on how the students interact with each other.
Admission
I got admitted on 2015. At that point online application was not mandatory. So the university didn't have infrastructure for online admission. At present online admission is mandatory as they have the facility. The application form was given out online. I had to submit it physically. Merit list was made according to HS result. Mathematics or statistics and English was mainly taken into consideration. Counseling took place after a week from the publishing of the merit list. Classes commenced after two weeks or so.
Faculty
The university has very eminent faculty. though the department has only three permanent faculty, the guest lecturers at present used to be the backbone of the department. The have retired officially but are still teaching the students as guest lecturers.
