Remarks
Overall, my 3 years experience in college was great.St.Xavier's college had shaped the early years of my adulthood.I have made wonderful friends , and the memories i created with them are irreplaceable.I am grateful to this college for many things.In the end i want to say,"Do you see what i see? I see Sxc,i see 3 years of wonderful memories created, friendships which will forever be cherished."
Course Curriculum Overview
Chemistry honours was divided into 6 semesters, in the first 3 semesters , we had physics and mathematics as the ancilliary subjects.The course was carefully structured keeping in mind the calcutta university syllabus and syllabus for various post graduate entrance exams.Our syllabus had analytical chemistry and biochemistry in the 6th and 5th semester respectively.
Placement Experience
There is a placement cell in our college which looks after the placement procedures.It has a strong network.The fee is a minimal amount of around 200 for the initial registration.We have ample internship oppurtunities for people with commerce background, eco , comp sc and mass comm.As in my case, i opted for a summer project at Indian association for the cultivation of science last year.our college also has a student exchange program where students from our college spend a summer or so in abroad universities.
College Events
Xavotsav , the annual fest of St.Xavier's college, Kolkata is the biggest fest in the eastern zone of India.It is a 3 day event which happens in the month of January every year and sees a footfall of around 2000 people. Our NSS unit organises monthly visits to several villages and organises blood donation camp, Prayas camp, women's day.
Fee Structure And Facilities
The fee structure is feasible in our college.It is affordable for everyone. Since it is a semester system , we have to pay the fees quarterly every year. The exam fees is 1000 for every semester which is quite affordable.
Fees and Financial Aid
Our college provides scholarships for meritorious students and students who need financial assistance. There are various awards (including cash prize) which are given to the rankers in a ceremony. The train tickets are reimbursed by the college authorities on providing valid certificate.
Campus Life
The labs in our college are well equipped with the latest instruments. We have a sports room as well, a big field where cricket matches and football matches are held and a basketball field. Our NSS and NCC units organise many events and it is compulsory for each and every student to obtain extracurricular credit of 90 hours and non-extracurricular credit of 30 hours(from NCC or NSS).
Alumni/Alumna
We proudly call ourselves Xaverians.The alumni network in our college is very strong and every year the alumni organisationa organises an even called beyond barriers which had witnessed the likes of Farhan Akhtar, Shreya Ghoshal,Asha Bhonsle. The seniors are very helpful and our campus is ragging free.
Admission
St.xavier's college is a reputed college in Kolkata ( now autonomous) previously affiliated to Calcutta University.It selects students on the basis of class 12 marks ( and entrance test for some subjects)and brings out a minimum of 2 selection lists if not more than 2.One can apply for a maximum of 2 subjects.As i was eager to take up chemistry , i had opted for chemistry honours.The admission process in my college was smooth and i faced no problems.
Faculty
Our teachers are very friendly and can be approached in times of need.The lab staffs are very helpful and they also have a thorough knowledge of labs.The teachers of ancilliary subjects also are student friendly and helped us in the first three semesters.
