Course Curriculum Overview

3

me being a law student expected a lot of practical and theoretical examples to be presented in front of the students when I first joined in, but the reality was far less than what I expected. The professor is mostly came in read. Whatever the book said and left, gave us few assignments and group projects to be completed without any particular information from their side. We had to sit and do research on our own without any input, and then we'll go summit down the assignments or projects or whatever task was appointed to us, and then we'll have a viva through our work and that's pretty much it . The new professors who joined in by our third year, were very practical, made us understand a lot of things which the previous professor didn't. They answered a questions. They were more relevant to us because they could understand that some topics were forced on us and supposed to be taught, maybe twice or thrice just to make us more comfortable or just to make us more smarter in that area by understanding it in depth . law is one of the most interesting and difficult courses out there, but then if you have the right professor is leading you to it, you would learn easily and more efficiently. in my area of study, practical work was not very much included other than participating in mood court. It was all theory based which is not very important in a way because when you finish your course and get into the real world when you go to your corporate world or litigation side, you need practical experience and you need to understand how to do work and not just learn the sections or the theory part so something that they could have improved was rather than giving us assignments or group projects they could have made us understand and giving us real life situations or give given us more practical practice so that it would be easy for us to understand what litigation is and how we are supposed to do it.

Fees and Financial Aid

In my first year I had to pay an amount of Rs. 2000 for registration followed by my tuition fees which was Rs. 150000. Then there was enrolment fees which was Rs. 10000. So i had initially paid 162000 in my first year. Yearly fees was 150000 for a B.com LLB (Honours) student in 2019. Then comes the hostel fees for one year which was Rs. 107000 for a shared non ac room. Then each semester I had to pay around Rs. 2000 as exam fees which i had paid for 10 semesters.

Campus Life

my college was very much into extra curricular activities as it used to have a lot of events happening every week. Beat Road shows musical events or the college fest. We used to have two major college fest. One held in odd semester and one held in the even semester. these events used to have a lot of influence on students as you could participate in sports, arts, dance, and much more activities for each and every student who was in the institute they used to have houses and groups to make it easier for students to understand where they belong, and according to that, they could choose whatever events they want to participate in. SRM Institute had a really big and accessible library to all students. They had every book which was needed. We could borrow the book for as long as we want and just return it back in the time period they have been allotted us to. We had projectors in each classroom and also there was air conditioning provided for the whole building as where I belonged. We had enough access to the auditorium as well for any kind of seminars that were being held. There were sports teams for every sport that you could think of anyone who was interested. Could participate in it without any hesitation. They are very welcoming and very supportive of your dreams. Sports Kota had a lot of students coming from different urban states as well. they were a lot of clubs found by students, one or two very famous clubs where DSA This club had lit arts, music, comic, and much more clubs inside it. Each club had head who would handle and take care of students from first year to final year, making sure that there were no breaking of rules and discipline was maintained throughout Srm.

Hostel Facilities

4

I was very late to join the hostel, so the only hostel which was available for me was a six sharing non-AC hostel. There was not much facilities provided in the room, but then a cupboard and a table and a bed basic utilities, that's it. We had a common washroom which is pretty good maintained. We had options for dry cleaning from hostel. The mails provided by the hostel was good every Wednesday and Sunday, we would get chicken or biryani with a small cup of ice cream or any other sweet available. The registration process for the hostel was to submit our original certificates and proof that we have registered for a particular course that course will decide which hostel will be allotted to. There were different hostels for different courses later after my first semester, or I would rather say in the middle of my second semester, I decided to move out and rent an apartment with my friends which made our lives much easier as we had access to go in and go out any time, we wanted and make food of our choice as kettles inductions hair, dryer, hair, straighteners, and boxes were not much allowed in our hostels.

Admission

my college that I got selected in was the only college I applied to because it was closer to my native place, and my father was comfortable with me going to any other state as I come from Andaman and Nicobar Islands. my eligibility area was I had to have a score, which was above 60 percentage, so I had to go in with all my certificates and register with my original name and email ID which led me to a portal where I had to pay around 2000 for registration, and then my process started. I had to also apply for hostel because I did not have any other accommodations available at that time so I had to open another portal in the hostel form where I had to pay 1,07,000 for hostel 1,50,000 was my college fees and registration fees was around 10,000 for only first year. I had to not give any other exams or crack any other entrance for this institute which made it easier as I had score more than 60 percentage in my 12th standard.

Faculty

2

So in Srm Institute, my faculty was the law of faculty. The ratio was quite appropriate, but then the faculty was not as approachable. As I thought it would be. first and foremost problem that I faced with the faculty was language barrier as this college was situated in Tamil Nadu. Most of the faculty spoke in Tamil during lectures, and I had to plead to them to speak in English. They would for a while, but then not always which made it very difficult for me and other north Indian students to understand lectures or be interested in them. Some professors were pretty good with their English and spoke fluently, which made me understand chapters better, but most of the professors did not know how to speak properly in English. That made them very conscious in front of class to talk in English.

Night Life

5

there was a gym inside campus for boys and girls. They had enough cafeterias to fit in thousands of students at once, which I haven't seen anywhere else in Chennai, but for the students who reside in hostel in time used to be around 8 PM for girls and 9 PM for boys, you cannot roam around the campus later after the curfew time they had timings allotted to students to have their meals, breakfast was around 9 to 10 lunch started from 1 to 3 snacks was from 5 to 6 and dinner was served from 9 to 10:30. You're supposed to finish your meals within the allotted times. The most famous hangout place was the Tech Park stairs where all events happened or people just hung out there for fun. You could see hundred hundreds of students roaming around every day in the evening for just walks or to share some tea, Java cafe was pretty famous. good food, specially for the Shawarma moving into the new city and moving into a hostel.

Specific schedule is not followed in college regarding the academic and co curricular activities. Sudden decisions will be taken by the management which is a bit difficult for the students and faculty too. There were times where faculties are fed up of management rules and decisions.
