College journey

College building is fantastically built with central ground within. College faculties are great and cooperative. The college administration are just not that great. Placement are overall good no thanks to the Training and Placement cell.

The course curriculum is quite vast as well as informative providing a plethora of knowledge on both basic and advanced chemical process technology with industry related hands on experience through training and projects.

Job opportunities are lower than other privileged colleges in West Bengal. Core companies like Praxiar, Linde , Haldia Petrochemicals , etc. visit every year but only take a few candidates from our stream. The mass recruiters are Wipro, Infosys , Tech Mahindra, ByJUs, Amazon ,etc.

There are two main events celebrated in our college : Prayukti (technical fest) and Riviera (cultural fest). Apart from these a few student bodies organizes events like Auspicious Paradigm ( drama, dance and music) , Rang Milanti (street play) , flash mobs , Mini Technical fests by Hitian Inside and other such competitions. Also all the national holidays like Gandhi Jayanti, Independence day, Rabindra Nath Birthday , Republic day is celebrated by college administration.

The fee structure when in studied was approximately 3.72 lacs for four year graduation course with accommodation facilities. But this has increased over the years. Still it can be considered pretty feasible as the college fees is less compared to other colleges with same reputation. It is a semi private college giving more benefits of low structured fees.

Different scholarship facilities are extended by the college. Childrens from poor household are given TFW (Tuition Fee Waiver ) of 100 %. Also students of defense families, backward classes, father/mother working in LIC are given refund of tuition fees upto some extent.

Extracurricular activities include drama group, literary group, dance and music group of the college formed by students who organizes different functions throughout the year. Also our college publishes it's own newspaper bimonthly and is run by HIT times a student group. Labs are well facilitated with equipments and educated faculties. Sports like football run in the blood of the students and inter departmental football / cricket matches always potrayed the gush of blood on the field literally.

I was living in a boy's hostel. Overall impression was good. The water contained high amounts of iron leading to frequently malfunctioning of aquagaurds. The hostels have separate playing ground and recreation rooms along with the college playground for departmental football, cricket matches. The mess food was a mess but still edible. One room occupancy was 2-3 people with beds, mattress and shelves provided by college.

Senior students are very helpful. The alumini connection becomes a strong part and is properly acknowledged by the college as well by organizing Phire Dekha- alumini meet every year. The interaction amongs seniors and juniors are good and ragging is banned. By the time I left the college our batch had minimized ragging upto a great extent. Still some hustles can be seen between students leading to violence but that is a rare occurrence and even a fruitful one leading to undeclared college shut downs sometimes.

I got admission through securing qualifying rank in West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination. I secured 7364 rank in engineering entrance stream and then applied for WBJEE counseling through online process where I selected some options for different streams and colleges. And in the first list I got Haldia Institute of Technology in Chemical Engineering.

Particularly in my department the faculties are well educated and informative. They have a vast experience in teaching field and most of them are doctorates. They are very cooperative and sincere. Lab classes are very educationally enthusiastic.
