Remarks
Our University does not have a good image, due to some incidents, and wrong coverage by media has worsen them. As it is located in a major place of the city and has major political party office in nearby, Jadavpur is usually a hot topic, but as an insider I know that my university is a peaceful place where we have all freedom to explore. Negative reporting has made this image, and I would like to improve this. We dont see any coverage when we do well but there are always media guys whenever there is a small incident irrespective of its magnitude.
Course Curriculum Overview
The BE Curriculum covers all aspects. It is considered of the best course in India specially the one in Electrical Department. In 4 years there are 8 semesters, each semester has 2 class tests (mid sem). 30:70 ratio is taken from the class test and the semester performance. The class tests help in continuous evaluation and helps us to maintain our performance.
Placement Experience
We are able attract the best companies in the Industry, not only in software department but also in other core subjects. The companies are regular and they offer the best compensation at par with the industry. The third year students are offered internship opportunities for Summer Internship. Almost all companies take both intern and FTE. As per stipend for interns, as far as I know the highest in around 1lakh per month. Several students opt for research internships in India as well abroad using scholarship programs like DAAD, MITACS.
College Events
For the freshers there is an orientation program, The freshers called UTurn is conducted by all departments together. It include intra university sports and performances. Two fests are conducted, one is Srijan, the technical fest and other is Sanskriti, the cultural fest. All these events are open to all, and they get audience from all around the city.
Fee Structure And Facilities
It is almost free. Total fees are around Rs10,000 for 4 years. We have to pay for two years during admission and the rest amount is paid after completion of 2nd year. Several fee waivers are given to students as per their economic conditions
Fees and Financial Aid
There are several fee waivers for those who come from weaker economic background. There is no discrimination, everything is transparent. The University encourages participant of students in competitions and conferences. Me and my team received around Rs70,000 for participating in Smart India Hackathon 2019 at NIT Surathkal. University is quite supportive.
Campus Life
The academic pressure is not much and thus you will not hear any news of drastic step taken by any student. The labs are well equipped and their maintenance is among the high priorities. We get to choose what we wish to do and we have the resources for it. Being situated in a major residential and commercial area of the city, the University has expansion constraints and hence sports facilities are restricted.
Alumni/Alumna
Alumni of JU are all over the world, right from top management positions to great artists and social workers. It gives a pride to see what they have achieved and this gives me an inspiration. Regarding my seniors, they are helpful and take care of their juniors, not only of same department but also of other departments.
Admission
The admission is through WBJEE, the college is the best institute participating in this exam hence there is a good competition. The institute is open for all students irrespective of their origin state. The admission process is quite simple if documents are proper. I had to visit the institute twice. It was smooth and the staff was helpful.
Faculty
I admire all of them in my department. They have great experience and almost everyone has done there education best institutes in the world. The research output is quite high and it is among the bests in India.
