Ques. Do I need to know Arabic before applying for BA (Hons.) Arabic at JMI? Is prior knowledge mandatory?
Ans. Prior knowledge of Arabic is highly beneficial and practically necessary, as the entrance test itself tests Arabic language proficiency (Section B is descriptive in Arabic). The programme is taught in Arabic medium for core subjects. Students with prior Arabic learning from madrasas, Arabic medium schools, or self-study are at a significant advantage.
Ques. What career options are available after BA (Hons.) Arabic from JMI?
Ans. Graduates can pursue careers as Arabic translators, interpreters, diplomats (Arabic is an official UN language), teachers, researchers, journalists in Arabic media, and professionals in Gulf/Middle East companies. Many JMI Arabic graduates work with the Ministry of External Affairs, embassies, Arabic news channels, and international organisations. Higher studies options include MA Arabic, MA Arab-Islamic Culture, or MA Islamic Studies at JMI.
Ques. Is the BA (Hons.) Arabic programme at JMI recognised for government jobs requiring Arabic proficiency?
Ans. Yes, a degree from JMI, a Central University, is widely recognised. Arabic graduates from JMI are eligible for positions in the Ministry of External Affairs, embassies, UPSC (Arabic as optional subject), and various government translation services. Ques. What is the entrance test pattern for BA (Hons.) Arabic at JMI?
Ans. The entrance test is 100 marks, 1 hour 30 minutes. Part A (40 marks) consists of MCQs on Arabic language and literature, national/Arab/international affairs. Part B (60 marks) is descriptive and includes translation, comprehension, Arabic writing, and grammar. Negative marking of 0.25 marks applies for wrong answers in Part A.

Ques. What is the Muslim minority reservation in BA (Hons.) Arabic at JMI?
Ans. JMI being a Minority Institution, 50% of seats are reserved for Muslim candidates: 30% for Muslim applicants (general), 10% for Muslim women, and 10% for Muslim OBC/ST candidates. The remaining 50% seats are open to all candidates. Additionally, 5% seats are reserved for PwD candidates, 5% for internal Jamia students, and 5% for Kashmiri migrants.
